Ford 6.0 Diesel FICM Issues. Need Help.
« on: April 13, 2011, 02:31:26 PM »
So..  like many 6.0's my FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) has gone out.  My '05 F250 has only 42k miles on it.  I know there are some very knowledgable people, or even mechanics, on here and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on things.  What is the main cause of it?  I've read everything that I can find on line and am still confused.  Some things say that there is no real "reason" for it except some of them didn't get soldered as well at the factory and the heat/vibration cause them to fail...  Some things I've read say the re-program Ford did to resolve injector problems, like the pump running for 15 seconds after the vehicle is turned off, is a key factor in wearing out the FICM's.  It sounds like Ford knew there were issues with injectors and instead of fixing it correctly, they came up with an easy quick fix and re-programed the truck but that in turn caused the life of the FICM to be greatly reduced and as many of us know, electrical components are generally not covered under extended warranties.

My main complaint currently is that when I was at the dealer last month I specifically asked them if my pump should run after it was off as a couple of my buddies with the same motor didn't experience the same thing.  They flat out told me that my truck was set up and programmed correctly with the current configuration and I was fine...  Now one month later they tell me a new program has been out for like 6 months and my fuel pump should not be running after turning the truck off and they want $950 to fix it..   :bash: :bash:

After researching it I can get a reman'd FICM for about $500 and then would have to get it programmed for like $150 so I would be in it $650..  So I'm not saving a huge amount of money doing it myself and would have no warranty if I did.  Feel free to move this to a different category if I've started it in the wrong place.

That sucks, I had 2 trucks with the 6.0 and nothing ran after I shut it off ever.  As you said sucks to pay the $950 but not enough savings to do it yourself. Good luck, I have not had any issues with any of my Ford Diesels ( other than brakes etc ) . I knock on wood all the time. Mike
