Banks Lake Trip
« on: April 18, 2011, 07:24:06 AM »
Took my daughter and went to Banks Lake for a few hours.  Nice and sunny but windy, water temps were 44. to 46.8 north end mainly.  I got one smallmouth to just over 3lbs.  and the daughter caught a nice rainbow.

Wait till it warms up, that is a fun lake when the water starts to warm up and the bass are spawning.  Congrats to you and your little girl!!

Very cool pics!
About 20yrs ago, we were cliff jumping into Banks lake. After about an hour of us jumping in, and climbing to the top to jump back in, triggered some kinda responce to fish life. As i got to the top, my buddy had just jumped. When i looked to see where he landed, i noticed 2 GIANT fish comming to inspect the splashing.
When i showed my other friend that was just getting to the top, he couldnt believe the size of fish compared to a 200lbs guy swimming next to them.
Looked like Carp scales, but 2 HUGE fish!
Paddle faster!!,,,,I hear banjo's!!!!

Thats almost kind of spooky to think about! There could be some big ol maneaters in those old prehistoric lakes!

Yes, trust me, i told my friend to get out NOW! That freaked the crap out of me. Especially when they came from the bottom to the surface, side by side. No more splashing that day! Wasnt that a man made lake? a diversion for when they were building the damn? They were like a pale white, no orange colors, looked to be about 4' long and fat. The scales were huge in size from 50' looking down. Wasnt a sturgeon!

Yeah you are probably right about it being a man made lake, a 'by product' of the dam. When reading your story I was thinking about cliff jumping as a kid in Sun Lakes area, like Deep Lake and all those lakes around Dry Falls and thinking about how old all of those lakes must be. I guess Banks may not count huh?  :chuckle:

I will bet some nasty stuff is in there! Wouldnt want to be on the bottom of it!!lol
Lakes you are talking about might have a secret paranaha nesting site in another underwater cave...(got to watch the movie Paranahas).

Looks like a great day at Banks! Looking forward to going over there myself in a few weeks

I think I'll pass on the movie! I'd probably never want to swim in a lake again!  :chuckle:
