diaphragm care? (turkey calls you perverts)
« on: April 21, 2011, 08:34:31 AM »
I have several mouth calls and have never really worried about the hygiene aspect. Do any of you wash or treat them in a special way?

I used to dunk them in some rubbing alcohol and then let them dry real good.  Then store them in a clean container of some kind.

This topic is no fun. You ruined the plethora of jokes that would have come.  :'(

Clean with mouthwash or as mentioned alcohol...rubbing or otherwise...lol.  Know a few folks that got sore throats from mouth calls put away without proper precautions.  Better safe than sorry.......

Not to mention they can get real nasty tasting without some care after use.

I use 50% mouthwash and 50% water mix.  Then I carefully separate the reeds with plastic toothpicks so the reeds don't stick together.  I store them in a frig which keeps the latex tight. Definitely disinfect plus keep them away from sunlight and heat.

each year I get a new one just like elk calls, never really thought a old nasty call was worth saving year after year :chuckle: When they are like 5-8 each for me. Get the same ones and they sound the same and they don't taste nasty!

Never done nothing but put them in the fridge. Use calls that are at least 10 yrs old.

Daily:  Let them air dry as often as possible.

Long Term: clean with diluted peroxide mix (alcohol can shrink different types of latex/rubber) and store in the fridge.  I always used to buy new calls every year, but now I know a guy  ;)
