arrow weight/straightness questions

What is the maximum straightness tolerance for arrows someone can expect to perform well at ranges exceeding 50 yards?
By “well” I refer to the one inch per ten yards benchmark i.e. 40 yards = 4 inch group, 50 yards = 5 inch and 60 yards = 6 inch group. I know that straighter is better but I would think perhaps there is a point of diminishing returns when talking price and straightness.

My second question refers to weight tolerances: What deviation in weight of completed arrow produces adverse groups at extended ranges? Obviously, a faster bow minimizes the effects of weight variances; however, the question stands. For the sake of this discussion let us assume a fired speed of 280 fps.

I have always been .003 or less for straightness, not sure about arrow weight...

I personally believe that 95% of archers couldn't tell the difference between a .001 and a .006 arrow.

As for your second question, are you asking at what weight does your arrow lose accuracy?

On groups 40 yards and under I see no difference between the .006 and .003 arrows I have shot threw my bows. Groups after 40 yards I do start to see a difference between the two. I prefer my arrows to be .003 and favor my gold tip xt's. As far as difference in total weight between arrows and at what point they start grouping diffrent. I could not tell you for sure with your setup. I match all my arrrows and I want them with 15 grains of eachother. I feel if the completed arrow is with 15 grains and the ranges that I shoot there is not enough difference to worry about it. But I do shoot at about 335fps and 83lbs. So bows with less speed and draw weight are going to be affected more and 15+- might be to much difference for some setups and start causing the groups to vary.

I find that SPine tolerance is much more important than straightness. you can usually spine tune your arrows by shoting groups and turning nocks to get best groups. but in order to get the better spine tolerances you need the straighter more expensive arrows. for hunting i buy the .001 straightness and for my target and 3d arrows i have been using the .0025 straightness.

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but do you use that setup in WA?  By my calculations that would require a 498 gr. arrow.  How do you do that with a gold tip?

If it has been asked you should know the answer the question Do I seem like a outlaw? Are you worried that I might not meet the 6 grains per pound of draw? Well leave that up to me. I can assure you when I hunt here in washington amoung many other places all my gear is legal

  Good! My current setup at 83lbs. That is my setup that I am taking to NZ in 2 weeks. When I hunt here I back it down to 75 pounds to be legal with a 450g arrow. No worries
