from what I see it is just more elk hunting on private property and the farmer is gonna charge you $$$$$$$$$$ to get on.

I've tried contacting the ranch to find out what the rules and trespass fees were to no avail. WDFW wasn't any help either. You'd swear it was a misprint by talking to them and the hunt doesn't actually exist. I believe I lost several brain cells during my extremely long conversation with them discussing these hunts. I won't be putting in for them due to the fact that you just don't know what you'll be getting yourself into. You may only be allowed 1 day to hunt and be charged $1,000 access fee. There's just no way of knowing until someone either gets in contact with the ranch or WDFW pulls their head out....

In my opinion hunts like these should be left in the raffle drawings like buckrun and not in the general pool of special permits. I would hate to see our special permit categories shift into managed ranch hunts.

I am in favor of WDFW opening more land for
public hunting, but I do not think that allowing
landowners to charge an access fee to hunt is
considered public hunting.

This issue was discussed thoroughly with a public
hunting advisory group during development of the
Landowner Hunting Permit program (LHP). The
tags that landowners receive in an LHP agreement
are not considered the “public hunting” portion of the
agreement. Rather, these tags are intended to allow
the landowner to hunt their property or have someone
else hunt their property to offset costs associated with
allowing public hunting or to help address game
damage issues on their land (if they accept an LHP
agreement, they cannot make a crop damage claim).
Hunters drawing “public hunting” permits will not be
charged a fee to hunt on the LHP property

Could you decifer this Bobcat. Are the lands considered part of or not a part of the LHP. How do you decifer what is a "public hunting" permit and what is use of a LHP. Does it mean that if I were to draw the Grande Ronde Quality Deer Tag #1016 that they could not deny me acess to the property? This next one was stated previously in the meeting notes...

Grande Ronde Vista Landowner Hunting Permits
The manager of the Grande Ronde Vista will distribute these hunting
permits. An access fee may be charged in order to utilize these
permits.

I don't know much about this at all so I hate to just guess and try to answer your question. But from what you posted, it sounds like it's just as it says- that if you draw one of the permits that are available to the public, that you can hunt the property and will not be charged a fee.

That's what it looked like to me but it seems backwards. If you draw the general tag you can hunt the whole unit including their property without a trespass fee. If you draw the vista (ranch specific) tag you can only hunt their property but may have to pay. Seems screwy to me. I'm going to pass on putting points in on this but will try to make some contacts to clarify. Just rubs me the wrong way when things are this confusing in our regs.

You and I aren't on the same page. I wasn't referring to permits that are for the GMU in which the private property is located. When they say "public hunting" permits, I assume they are talking about the ones listed in the regulation pamphlet, that are specifically for the Grande Ronde Vista area. With a permit for the GMU, you would not be able to hunt the private land.

Looks like ten-ten is all the wheat/farm ground outta dayton along with the Bennet timberland? There is access. Sounds like the biggest bulls are down low anyway....

You probably already know this, but if not, you can call wdfw and change your choices if you do it before the deadline.  And charging a tresspass fee from our permit process if a bunch of B.S! they should not be allowed to take money, what a bunch of crap.
