The landowner hunting permit program shouldbe altered to have the State of Washingtonselect the hunters for all tags and not allow aprivate party to sell access to use “landownertags.”
I am in favor of WDFW opening more land forpublic hunting, but I do not think that allowinglandowners to charge an access fee to hunt isconsidered public hunting.
This issue was discussed thoroughly with a publichunting advisory group during development of theLandowner Hunting Permit program (LHP). Thetags that landowners receive in an LHP agreementare not considered the “public hunting” portion of theagreement. Rather, these tags are intended to allowthe landowner to hunt their property or have someoneelse hunt their property to offset costs associated withallowing public hunting or to help address gamedamage issues on their land (if they accept an LHPagreement, they cannot make a crop damage claim).Hunters drawing “public hunting” permits will not becharged a fee to hunt on the LHP property
Grande Ronde Vista Landowner Hunting PermitsThe manager of the Grande Ronde Vista will distribute these huntingpermits. An access fee may be charged in order to utilize thesepermits.
