My first attempt at Mammal Taxidermy.
« on: May 10, 2011, 12:41:42 PM »
I had intended for one of our local taxidermists to mount this Bobcat, but after emailing him a couple times and not getting a response, I decided to give it a try myself.  My wife is not a big fan of mounts, but she took an interest in the cat and insisted on a shoulder mount.  I am no stranger to Taxidermy as I have mounted birds for the last 10+ years, but I have NEVER mounted a mammal before.  I ordered a How too video for mounting a Life size Bobcat.  It didn't look all that hard so ordered a kit with everything I needed.  All I can say is that I learned what tools will be on my X-mas list this year to make things easier.  I could not get my fleshing knife sharp enough to do what I needed it to do, so did a lot of it with just a razor blade.  Overall, I am not dissappointed at all.  Made a few mistakes here and there but I learned from them.  Next project,  the Corssican Ram  I have had in the freezer for the past 8 years.
