Question for Whites owners on peep sights
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:43:12 AM »
I am looking to get a peep sight for my .504 Cal Model 97 Whitetail Hunter.  I'm thinking I'd like a Williams.  I cannot find Whites listed as an option on most of the sites "part finder" tools.

How have others solved this problem?  I'll give Williams a call later this week and ask them, but I thought I would check here first.

Thanks for the links!

I had searched the Williams site, but was not successful.

Appreciate it!

Hey I have several M97's and White in general. All White rifles will accept the Williams WGRS Whitetail model listed on the site. I use them and really like them.

I just ordered this:
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=716993

I called Williams, got a tech, he said model # 51098 would work on my rifle with the factory tapped holes.

I also ordered a .050 and .150 aperture for kicks.  (it comes with a .093).  I got the twilight apertures-I am not sure if that will be a good thing, or a bad thing.

I am wondering if my front sight needs to change.  Also, I wonder if the red fiber sight on there now will look goofy through the peep...

And thanks for the advice on the 460 grain bullshop bullets.  I got to the range a couple weeks back and I am in the process of trying to see if the gun likes 75 or 85 grains of 777 FFg powder better.

I really liked the .093 so I stayed with it.  I gives a very good field of veiw especially in dim light and your eye just automatically centers it on the front site IF you do not think about it.

I also go a twilight ap but have not tried that one yet - think they should be fine...

That is what I have on mine - it works very well also.  On my MK 85 I did use a Williams ramp and blade so I could put a hood on the front sight... makes it somewhat look like you are sighting through a 1 power scope..

You will like the site. The fiber optic if it is the original is a little large in diameter but will be fine for hunting. The site has enough elevation adjustment you should not need to change the front ramp. I have the twilight aperture and do use it but I don't think it makes a huge difference.

Did you get the 460 bullshops sized at .5045? The bore on the M97 is slightly larger than on the early models and likes the larger size (as opposed to .5035.) Dan makes his bullets a little on the hard side see how you like them he will soften them for you if you ask.

Well, I got the rifle to the range over the long weekend and wow!  I love the peep sight.  I now know why everyone gets so excited over them.

My groups went from 4-5 inches at 100 yards to about 1.5 to 2 inches.

Just love the sight!
