Disabled special hunt permits
« on: May 18, 2011, 10:51:12 PM »
I am a disabled veteran and am registered as disabled with the WDFW. I purchased many different special permits this year but could not find the disabled hunter special permits to purchase. Does anyone have any information on this? I have sent WDFW an email regarding the situation and today is the last day to put in for special permits. The hunting regulation book for 2011 says there are hunts available but I could not even find out how to do it online or by phone. Any insight would be helpful.

You need to go online and purchase your special permit applications, and a deer license/tag if you haven't already. You can do that here:

https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov

You will just need your WILD I.D. # and a credit card. You will want to purchase a deer special permit application for the "disabled hunter" category. It will be $6.00 (for the application)

After you get that done, go back to that same site and click on "I want to submit special hunt permit applications",  to make your choices (up to 4 hunts) and submit the application.

If you're not seeing the disabled hunter special permit applications, it could be that they don't have you listed as a disabled hunter on your WILD I.D. "profile."  You might want to check it, just after you log on all your info comes up, and right after your name (in the upper right) it should say "Disabled".

If it doesn't, then that type of permit application would not show up as an option for you. You probably should have gotten this straightened out before today, but I'm willing to bet that if it's their mistake, they will be willing to fix it for you tomorrow and get you entered into the draw in that category.

I had to call a couple days ago and change my 2nd choice on one of my apps, and the person I talked to was very friendly and helpful.

Call 360-902-2515. Hopefully they won't put you on hold for too long. I only had to wait five minutes.

Are you talking about the special hunt permits for disabled hunters or the disabled hunter road access entry permits? If you are talking about the road access permits they won't be released until mid-june.

It does say disabled after my name, yet I could not see the special hunt permit for disabled hunters. I do not need road access, I can still get out and walk the woods. Im not totally inmobile. It is already past the deadline of May 18th, so I am probably SOL. Im going to call them, ill let you know the results. Thanks for the information guys!

I called them and they gave told me that they were available; which is BS because I looked for over an hour last night and have been anticipating getting a special permit since last year. So screw the WDFW and their webmaster.

:dunno: Sorry to hear about that, sounds like you are one of the thousands of Fishing and Hunting enthusiasts that procrastinate every year before Every Deadline.  :dunno:

All I know is that EVERY permit was available on April 18Th in the POS!

I'm also disabled. The gripe that I have with the "disabled" permits is that there are no buck hunts for the disabled. Yes, I know that there are "any deer" hunts during the regular seasons, but what this boils down to is that they are just glorified doe permits. It would be nice if we could get at least a few opportunities for a crack at a nice buck during a special season for disabled hunters.

In my opinion, they should take half of the hunts from the Master Hunters and give them to the disabled hunters.  I would even support a couple more deer and elk rut hunts for disabled hunters. That's my  :twocents: for what its worth.
The best friend a guy could have asked for. RIP chasing pheasants in heaven Denali girl.
