Question Where do you get the?
« on: May 26, 2011, 05:22:46 PM »
Apples?  I see some people use a bunch of apples to attract the animals.  My question is where do you get them?  You buy them for .99 a pound or do you get them cheaper?  It just looks like some people have some pretty big piles.  Maybe you have a dealer?

I'm picturing driving down some shady alleyway "hey man you got the good stuff?". "What will it be the granny smith or the golden delicous?" " Give me a 50 worth of the goldens man, c'mon man hurry up!" :chuckle:

We find people that have apple trees in their yard and apples on the ground. They obviously don't use them so we ask if they mind if we take them.  We get buckets full for free.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

LMAO
Well, you'll get the apples off the ground in the summer. Until then you'll have to buy them ON SALE.

What works for me is I've got a market near my work. I would say they cater to a different income level and ethnicity than my local grocer. Well, cash talks and I buy a few cases at a time. I'm right at about 55 cents a pound for the usual varietys.

I grew up around  lots of orchards. The farmers thin the apples out every year, and they just throw the apples on the ground that have been thinned off the tree..  Just stop and talk to a farmer they more than likely will hook you up....

I picked up some Granny Smiths today for $0.29 per pound.  Even at that price though, it would get kind of expensive to feed deer the apples.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

A lot of times you can buy truck loads of culls from the orchards for dirt cheap. Pears and other stuff as well :IBCOOL:

Some of the stores will pick through all their bins and pull out the culls.  Then sell them discounted.  I believe I was able to get them for about 40 cents a pound, but they had squishy spots and bruises and what not.  I've also seen roadside dealers selling good apples for 50 cents a pound.

Summit Trading Post at Canyon and SR512 (north side of 512).  That is the best place to get produce.  They always have sales and if you buy 10 pounds or more the price is greatly reduced.  Plus their regular price for apples is at least half what you would buy them for anywhere else.  I stop in there once a week to get apples to eat all week.  (I bought 17 pounds yesterday and paid around $5.

Damn, that is some cheap apples. If it was a bit closer I would make the drive and load up.
