Clearwater ID - 36 lb Chinook

Article in today's Lewiston Tribune says a guy caught a 40" 36 lb chinook in the Clearwater.  They figure it would have been several pounds heavier if he hadn't kept fishing before getting it weighed.  He fought it for about a 1/2 hr and the filets weighed 14 lbs.

That sure is a great fish for the Clearwater!  If it is 36lbs, the pic sure doesn't do it justice.

I agree that fish doesn't look like 36# in the pic. It was weighed at the same place they weigh all the fish for the steelhead derby so I suspect it's a good weight, just a deceiving pic.

I could buy 36#. You gotta remember springers run heavy compared to a fall fish. They have so much more fat and oil packed into them.

Naw thats BS. Muscle weighs twice what fat weighs. Its just the pic....

Outdoors writer for the Tribune just posted on his blog that a couple of guys caught a 40 incher and a 43 incher no weights.  If you know the river you should be able to figure out where they were using the picture.

I believe it. That guy catches some huge fish in the Clearwater. A couple years ago he caught a 29 lb steelhead up there. HUGE.

I've hung  enough springers on scales and enough fall kings that I can tell you they are a few pounds more for the same size fish. the meat has more fat and oil and is just a denser meat than some fall fish that is going to be dead in a month.
