Outboard Trouble > Again
« on: May 28, 2011, 10:10:09 PM »
 :bash:

After fishing all day Friday I was plowing through the channel between Lopez and San Juan when the rev limiter kicked in on my just purchased 2007 DF140 Suzuki. The motor started beeping and would not turn past 3K RPM. I limped in to Friday Harbor and spent the night wondering how in the world I was gonna make it back to Blaine harbor. Next morning after a restless night on board I headed out to try it and same> rev limiter and 3K rpm max- not enough to get on plane. I decided to head to Washington Park at least I could get the boat without having to take the ferry. I made it to Decatur when the motor quit all together. I got the kicker fired up and limped on in and finally made it to the park. I had called the wife to bring down the trailer and get me. We went straight to the shop in Mt Vernon where the tech hooked up a laptop. He reported 32 low oil pressure alarms and then discovered that the oil was overfull. He said it could be frothing the oil. ??? Huh???  :dunno:
Whatever...My chance at Halibut just evaporated for this year unless I go to Alaska. The service manager and the mechanics assured me that they would fix the motor. Hopefully before their constant F<ups kill me!
I explained my frustration to them and I think I may have said P>O>S> several times. I left the boat with them and they said that they would make it right.
In my eternal optimism I will try it again next week. What is open to fish next weekend in area 7??
Lokidog> Thanks for the excellent offer and moral support.. I will make it out there eventually.
PJ3 I will have to catch up with you when they ever get my motor right.  The ride across the last channel to the park was pretty harrowing today and I was thankful the wife and kids stayed home.

What a deal you got on that "new' motor....   :chuckle:  I would be sure to ask for a two year warrantee on that thing for the hassles you have gone through with them.  You didn't miss much for fishing today from my perspective.  Wind was blowing us all over.

That sucks bigtime! I had all kinds of BS troubles with my outboard for the first 2-3 years and had a hell of a time getting it taken care of under warranty as the shop doing the "work" was lying and saying that they were doing it and just pocketing the dough. Mine had a broken compression ring and ultimately required a rebuild, I took it in three times in the first 35 hours of running as it had managed to burn five quarts of oil in that amount of time (it's a 4 stroke). They finally fixed the motor after I made a complaint to Mercury of their fraud but they wouldn't fix it's idle problem ever, I had to do that. They thought that it was totally ok for it to idle at about 1300RPM instead of Mercury's suggested 600....The idle mixture was too lean, an easy fix but they tried to tell me there was some magic federal law that they would be violating etc. That shop had more scumbag thieves than any other that I have ever heard of, they were located about 175th and 99 in Shoreline, the recommended warranty outfit for Olympic Boat Center in Everett.

My advice to you Oscar: take your boat to Three Rivers in Woodinville, they are the best I know of. I had about 15  trips in a row that ended with me pissed off that my boat was still underpowered, running like crap and burning tons of oil. I understand all too well how frustrated you are right about now!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
