Stolen Bushnell 8 Meg from Capitol Forest
« on: June 12, 2011, 11:56:47 AM »
Well it finally happened. Someone stole my newest Bushnell 8 Meg camera. It happened between Sunday the 5th and Saturday the 11th in Capitol Forest on the Waddell Creek side. The metal box was camo’d as was the cable and lock. The cable was wrapped around a large clump of willows and it was evident that they spent a bit of time pulling the cable out and through the brush, then up and over the top.

I am sure it was either a brush picker or a hunter as the location is not close to a hiking/walking trail. The part that pisses me off is that last week I was going to pull it, but I left it. Luckily I did pull two others that were nearby. Maybe if I left them I would have a pic of the thief, or a couple more missing cams. Who knows.

So below are a couple pics to help identify it if anyone comes across it.
The camera that was stolen had the number 3 written in black ink on the inside and on the back. I imagine a thief would try to remove this so there may be visible scuffmarks in those spots.

Camera back.

Inside camera.

The box is covered in camo duct tape so it may be covered in glue or sticky spots if they remove it. Though they may repaint it I guess.

The cable is completely covered in camo duct tape and I doubt anyone would try to strip it clean.

Camera last Sunday

This Saturday, no camera.

If anyone hears or sees anything I would appreciate it if you sent me a pm. I just want it back, no questions asked. Thanks.

Actually the camera blended in great until you are right up on it.
No bait and no real trails other than deer or bear and most here would be hard pressed to find the location by a trail. That is why I suspect it was a brush picker or hunter.

Wow, that really sucks. I guess you can be kinda greatful your other ones werent nearby to get stolen too, but that still really sucks ass. Its really sad these days that for as often as a human walks up on someone else's trail cam, the odds of it getting stolen are really high. Me personally, if I walked up on someone's cam, I'd leave it be considering that IT IS NOT MINE! Makes you wanna have a trail cam thats got the exploding dye things that banks use that way everbody knows who the POS is.  :chuckle:

Sorry Billy, happened to me too!  Of course the one I had was in a steel bear box, 2 inch lags in alder tree, and padlocked.  If they want it, they will go to whatever extreme to get it.  And it was my newest camera too. Might stop a bear, but humans?!?  I sold all the rest of my cameras.  Good luck to you!

I started trying a new trick out cause of reading things like this. I hang my cams about 10 feet in the air, got a pair of tree climbers i strap onto my boots climb up a tree with no limbs and angle the cam down, area for photos drops badly but I figure it should be really hard for someone else to get at that way.
Sorry to hear about your cam man, you actualy went through alot to keep it from being stolen.
