The killer dogs of Stevens County are dead

Most areas do have such laws, and Stevens Co. has a "don't ask, don't tell", attitude, which is just fine.

I cannot imagine any area, if you legitimately say a dog has come at you, and kill it, you are very safe from prosecution. My wife works out a lot, and takes our grown husky with her. She has been attacked by a couple of dogs, and those same dogs are now "listed" as dangerous, and must be chained or fenced up in the owners yard, or be destroyed.

Here are a couple "wild" dogs I caught on one of my trail cams. Look like deer killers to me. This picture came from a very rural area.Only a farm here and there. After this pic I didn't get a deer photo for a week!

True they have a don't ask don't tell attitude but unfortunetly a good deal of the people hold that true to deer as well.  I am always amazed to see the amount of poaching that goes on in and around Colville, almost as bad as the Republic and Curlew area.

Talk to the Game Wardens, the areas around Springdale are #1 in the State for Poaching, and with the economy like it is, it isn't going to get any better......That/Those area(s) border the res, and I think quite a few of us on here understand how Native American's feel about taking deer on any lands.

The Killer Dogs that made the news are dead, but the other uncountable killer dogs of Stevens county are alive and doing well.  I have seen fawns being chased by domestic dogs nearly as many times as I've seen them being chased by coyotes.....to take action on this type of a matter is a real crap shoot because you never know from day to day how law enforcement will react to such things......the "dont ask dont tell" TODAY, tomorrow may be different.  People get mighty fired up when their dogs get shot......

Doesn't matter what happens, when some dog owner finds his dog has been shot, and he knows who did the shooting, he will most likely call the Sheriff.

When I was younger, I killed any dog I came into contact with, while in the woods, guess I've grown soft and let the last couple go.....

Thinking of going back to old habits though.....although the first question I ask when hunting private property---"do you have any dogs...", if they say "No", I ask what they would like me to do if I encounter any.

The usual response from farmers is "kill them", then I'm good to go.

It is more common for me to see deer chasing coyotes than coyotes chasing deer.  Not so with dogs.  BIG problem and the dogs are bad too.  It is rare for the owners to understand or care.  Animal control tends to be as big a problem as the owners.  Law enforcement understands but has other priorities.  Practice with the shotgun for close work and keep that rifle in top form for the rest.

the property i hunt north of spokane is a family compound of 160 acres.  father and mother have their house on it, their daughter and her family and their son and his family.  they all have dogs.  the dogs of the father and daughter never stray much from the porch or lawn.  the sons dogs?  i've watched them chase multiple deer almost every time hunt the property.  i've had to adjust my strategy and avoid 'his' side of the property.  the daughter's husband discreetly asked me to dispatch the dog, but man, what a nightmare that could become!  there have been several times i could have taken them, and probably rightly so, but when archery hunting, if the dog showed up back on it's porch with a broadhead hole in it... man, 

i've asked that they keep their dogs inside when i hunt, but as of yet there has been no effort to do that.  it's a tough situation, for sure!  i would really like to hunt the deer where they're crossing into the property near the sons house, but the dogs always have the deer running and it's not my property, so there's not much influence i have on what they do with their dogs.

I think if they don't have a collar then they are likely a ferral dog.. I'm very torn as a dog owner, but i've got too much time and $$$ invested to let my dog go running around. I keep him in sight or fenced up for his protection as much as mine.
