Walleye Fishing - Roosevelt?
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:51:46 PM »
Well taking my dad over to Roosevelt for a fathers day weekend trip, leaving early Thursday morn, I can't wait!  We have fished the Sanpoil before for walleyes and was wondering if anyone knew if the water level has come up enough to where the fish have moved up in the sanpoil and if it would be worth it?  My dad is originally from Minnesota and has only caught a few walleyes  in 30 years since hes been out here, would like to get him into some good fishing.  Not asking for someones honey hole but if anyone has some general info it would be much appreciated.  Hopefully I'll have some good pics to post for everyone come Sunday  :IBCOOL:  Tight lines everyone!

Thanks for the info Yelp.  I know when we went last year the water had just come up a few days before we got there and yeah fishing was...well...horrible.  No wallys and a couple trout.  Might have to make the trip farther east...could be sleeping in the truck though since we dont have a campsite there :chuckle:

Here ya go.  Been keeping an eye on the levels for the past month.  It has cancelled a few camping trips because of levels.  Lots of launches still too low, some almost 40ft.  If you aren't launching a boat, I'd say your options are pretty good.  Saw a report of a kid taking a 8lber off the shore in the past couple days.

If Roosevelt is unfishable, try Banks.  It isn't that far, has multiple campgrounds and has excellent walleye and smallmouth fishing

Thanks for the info everyone.  And you read my mind kbyers, think we will head to Banks instead.  Always wanted to fish that lake anyway and always seem to drive right past it.  Just not sure about those water levels and how they relate to how full the sanpoil and cant find the data from last year to give me a reference.  Banks it is!  Any ideas on what works best...trolling crawler harness...jigs....?

The water runoff is so unusual this year I think the post about going to Banks would be wise to try.  :twocents:

Kettle Falls is now usable.  launched my boat there no problem.  Fishing is good and alot of small ones like Yelp mentioned.  If your in a boat, watch for logs, BIG logs floating every where.  Good luck.  My wife is from Minnesota, what part is your dad from?  John

John - My dad is from Baudette, little town on the Canadian border.  COLD!  How bout your wife?

Well got back late last night from the trip to Banks, fishing was lousy :fishin:  Tried just about everything, trolling, jigs, tossing crankbaits,  and couldnt manage to even get 1 walleye.  Talked with lots of oter guys who weren't doing much better.  We did manage to get up to Rufas Woods for a few hours and limited on trout, fishing was insane!

I've had good luck in the Spokane arm and also up the main lake about 6 miles above Two Rivers where the Spokane dumps in. Fish on the west side where 6 mile creek dumps in. The big flats downstream of 6 mile creek hold some good smallies and walleyes.
