nucanoe: could this possibly be the do-it-all small boat? it even comes in camo!

okay so here is what i found, its the NuCanoe... here is the link http://www.nucanoe.com/ its made in Bellingham! what do you guys think? could this be the do-it-all small boat?

tell me if im crazy, but i see this as a drift boat, saltwater salmon fly troller, trout hunter, and duck blind all wrapped up in one. i fish by myself 99.9% of the time, so owning a 21' heavy duty all weather deep v cruiser, doesnt really pan out as far as $ is concerned... the reason why i havent gotten rid of it yet is that i havent found a boat to replace it. ive been wanting a drift boat for a while, but again, i dont fish with anybody, so a large boat that takes one dedicated man to opperate, while another fishes, isnt sonething in the cards


i dont wanna sell my boat, but, i sure could use the cash for bills and other priorities.... of course i am never one to be with out a boat, and after doing some research, i found a company out of bellingham who produce a rotomolded canoe/kayak/dory hybrid called "nucanoe". they only offer 2 models of boats, but everything is modular, so, what works in one boat is made for the other boat.... they make a 10 and a 12' model, and it even comes in camo with a duck blind. it can be set up like a row boat, a kayak or a canoe, and it can handle a motor.

as im leaning more and more towards fly fishing, ive been debating a small, rowable, light weight, easy to portage, general purpose hunting and fishing platform...

now growing up in the pacific northwest, i know how the weather is around here, and having kayaked several hundreds of miles in the islands, i am aware of the immediate downsides to a small fishing platform..... however, this boat, the "nucanoe"- it just seems like "do-it-all" small boat...... id love some input from other kayak anglers, big boat fishermen, flyguys, and just people who have an outside point of view.... oh yeah, cant forget duck/goose hunters either.

Little more room than a layout boat if you duck hunt, save money on launch fees and easier to deal with alone.  If you have the money, why not buy one and leave your other boat at home and save the gas unless you have company.

I kinda like it,  I fish out of a 13ft ocean kayak malibu right now and I am looking to upgrade this may be it.   I have pulled in every thing from perch to pink and chum salmon.  I have tied into a good size king but lost at the boat (my fault).  I love not having to buy gas or look for a ramp and wait my turn.  the kayaks are great for trout also,  I troll a flat fish for the bigger ones and a wedding ring sometimes.  you would be surprised how well these little boats will take waves.  they are so lite the just kinda ride over them (most of the time)  the only time I have felt uncomfortable was with 3ft wind waves but it was a blast to surf back in.  I found a salt water rated trolling motor with a 18" shaft that would be nice if it was windy or had to fight a current.

I have one. Got a steal on it off of Craigslist. I sold my Marsh Rat and got it for the added room. I haven't hunted out of it yet because I bought it after the season. I have used it on some lakes and intend on using it this summer and fall fishing on the Skagit. Its perfect for me and my son or one dog. I plan on getting a blind for it this summer. It handles very nice. Much more stable and safer than the Marsh Rat. I still wouldn't want to be out on the salt far from shore in rough water in it. Close to shore in chop wouldn't be a problem though. Let us know if you get one.

Yes, you are crazy!  But, I appreciate that.  Usually the trait of a damn good winter steelheader.

Sounds like it would fit the bill well on almost everything else.  I too have bouts of craziness when it comes to fishing.  But, drifting for winter fish in that thing sends a chill to my bones.  Sounds fun for drifting summer fish and Dollies on the Sauk if I were twenty years younger.

When I was guiding the central Oregon coast (a long, long time ago)I had a 14' wooden drifter I used for solo scouting.  If I can remember that far back correctly I think it was a kit from Tateman.  It fished one person extremely well.  Plus I could cook breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dutch oven while floating and still have plenty of room for gear and a propane heater if temps really dropped.  Even drifted out a nice 5X5 elk one morning on an archery opener.

Not as portable as this Nucanoe and definitely not as good a mud flat duck skimmer.  But figured I'd bring it up as an option if winter drifting was a more serious need.
