Really sucks
« on: June 08, 2008, 07:14:33 PM »
This might ruffle peoples panties but Oh Well! Looks like so many guys got there bear permit just to get it and don't even hunt it. I realise gas prises have gone up the last 6 months but those same people will put in for it next year even with gas hire. Why do that? Is it a static thing or what?

My uncle hunted...once. For two hours. That's it. Last I talked to him he was saying he was really going to try to get out the last week a few times. Hey it's his loss, his permit, his points. Don't worry about it catboost. That's one more bear left for you when you draw.

That's funny coming from someone who stated "The price of gas I did not want to drive that far to get the extra mile I wanted." in this thread http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,7391.msg82119.html#msg82119 when you were only about 10 miles from home.

How do you figure "got there bear permit just to get it and don't even hunt it"? Are you basing that on the amount of people posting stories and results? Of the approximately 250,000 hunters in WA we only have 1200 signed up here so I feel fortunate that we have enough good bear hunters signed up to post pictures and stories.

Try going out to the units that they are hunting. You will find the hunters. I met hunters in Copalis from Everett and Vancouver. That's 180 & 125 miles respectively so I don't think it is all about gas prices.

You are always going to have a few that don't or can't get out for whatever reason, but those are far and few between. For examply a friend of mine drew Copalis and hasn't spent a day up there, but after he applied he was given an opportunity to go to Africa for two weeks. Of course he went to Africa. The guy has killed bears in 3 states and on the Q Rez, a totally dedicated bear hunter. Think he applied planning not to hunt?

Obviously you intended to rile people up for whatever reason, but it would be nice if you had evidence or experience to back it up.

I guess I just don't understand what you are trying to say or what your motivations are.  :dunno:

My bit about driving a little farther to try and find something I did not have to draw a permit for and stop others from drawing is two different thing! I am reading on here and talking to people on here that have gotten drawn and are spending 1 day using there permit. Not to point fingers but I have seen some on here that have gotten Bear all the time and just piss there spring bear permit away. For those of us that would like the chance it sucks. BTKR you act like you are feeling giulty.

BTKR has been to his unit atleast 3 weekends maybe 4 so far.  Plus he has a job and a family.  I don't think he has pissed away his tag.

Did I say he was? What I said was (BTKR you act like you are feeling guilty. ) He just seemed to be a little touchy. I just posted how I felt about it.

Not feeling guilty at all.
Since the season started I have only missed a couple weekends. Just ask my family or check my bank account. I may not have climbed any Mts. for bear, but I have hunted almost as hard as I want to this year. I may not have tried the nastiest spots, but that is because I know how hard it can be to get a critter out before it spoils when hunting by myself. I know my limits and respect the game I hunt by hunting within those limits. Just because I don't care if I kill one or not does not mean that I don't enjoy hunting them.

What pisses me off is you sending me a pm this weekend stating "You should be out hunting" then suggesting that some are pissing it away and saying your not pointing fingers.

Your "gotten Bear all the time" statement makes it seem that you think bear hunting is easy. Let me be the first to tell you that you have no clue how hard some guys hunt in order to make it look so easy.

If you were really interested in getting a bear you would not be "Just sucks sitting here with my hands tied wanting to try my luck."
You would be out scouting for spring sign, learning where the bears are and keeping tabs on them until August.

Another thing to think about is that if only the most dedicated hunters were drawn for the permits every year, the success rate would be higher and subsequently less permits would be offered in the following years. So it's really not like permits not being used to their full potential is an unexpected phenomenon. I'm sure they take that into account when they determine the permit quotas every year. They are not expecting or even wanting a 100%, or even a 50% success rate in the Capitol Forest, or any of the other units.

What sucks worse , is hunting it hard for 4 years straight and not getting anything :chuckle: :twocents:

"You should be out hunting" That was a joke. Sorry if it hurt your felling. When I go out every weekend looking for coyote I am also going down in the valley and swamp areas. I have found bear sign but I do not want to say to much on that.

Correct. I think Todd told me they only wanted 10 - 12% success when the initiated the hunt.
