waterproofing gear
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:16:55 PM »
What do you guys use to waterproof your gear? I have some jackets that are losing their waterproof properties and have seen and read about a bunch of different fixes but would rather hear first hand what people use. I am looking to spray, soak or whatever two jackets and an older pair of boots.

I opened up the seam once to check out a jacket that began leaking and found the goretex liner all cracked and torn in many places....No fixing that one...

I use sno-seal on all of my boots, seems to work pretty well. I tried camp-dry one time on a bunch of my gear last year and everything smelled so bad from the stuff that I ended up washing it all multiple times to get the stench most of the way out. If your clothing is a liner type like gore-tex and it's leaking, its time for new gear.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

There once was a certain newbie to hunting ( 8) ) who was so   :bash: that he sprayed his boots with Camp-Dry right before the season and he could smell them all day when hunting for the first few days... I'm sure the bucks appreciated that  :'(

Obenauf's is the only thing I will use anymore.

Warning: Don't leave LP treated boots unattended in camp.  Bears like that stuff.  Might wake up like we did with a pile of bear crap where your boots used to be.  Hiking out of Alpine Lakes Wilderness in sock feet - NOT FUN!

Actually it was about a month before bear season in my case. I ended up not wearing any of the stuff I sprayed because it stunk so bad!
