The 4100 was closed for me.  I hope they keep it closed. Cut down on road hunters.

Just got the documentation from WDFW with the details regarding road closures and additional access.

It states - "Weyerhauser may allow motorized access through normally locked gates, barring closure due to fire danger or other operational reasons:

However, as of today (Aug 19) the Weyerhauser St. Helens Tree Farm is closed due to fire danger, therefore the additional access through the Weyerhauser property is not available at this time."

It goes onto give a hotline to check on the lifting of the fire danger closure and then it states -

"The information below only applies if the fire closure has been lifted and access has again been permitted by Weyerhauser:
Please be aware of the following guidelines regarding the different access scenarios you may encounter on Weyerhauser property:

If a gate is closed and locked with no motoized access sign, no MOTORIZED access is available. Walk in hunting is available through these gates."

The next point deals with logging activity and it appears that there should be a page 2 of which I did not receive. There is also recreation access rules from Weyerhauser along with images of various logging road signs and a detailed map outlining the GMU.

Can anybody clue me in to whether "closed due to fire danger" means no access at all or just motorized access?

Has anybody else received this info yet and is there a page 2 from WDFW?

Closed due to fire danger are the signs you do not want to see and are strictly inforced. They mean NO access at all....................

I got my packet yesterday.  My letter was double sided and continued on the back of the page.  I wasn't impressed with the information provided.  Everything was "if" or "may be" - if they change access status; there may be gates open; there may be volunteers available at gates. There wasn't any real specific information other than to call the Weyerhauser info line.  At least the map was decent with areas of browse damage to trees.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I got my letter  two days ago. I get the impression it is closed period! If it isnt open for the early hunt i will eat my tag, I drew with 2 points anyway. Im not gonna hunt the river bottom with 200 other hunters. Not my style. I wont even be mad. It is what it is. It would be nice to hunt what i have scouted all summer though.  :dunno:

Even when Weyco land is all closed for fire danger but you can still access the state land via several different corridors.  Call the Weyco hotline and listen to the corridor access descriptions.  You are free to drive them through Weyco to get to state land.  Plenty of elk on state land, but if you feel you need to eat your tag if you can't hunt on Weyco I understand and I'll thank you now for the one more bull available when I draw Toutle again.

I drew an archery Toutle bull permit in 2001, and Weyerhaeuser was closed for fire danger. They would not let me walk or drive on their road to get to the large block of state land. They even had a guard sitting at the gate all day to be sure nobody parked at the gate and walked in. I thought about hiring a helicopter to fly me in but never did.

So, there's no guarantee you will have access into the Toutle unit. And that's why they now also include a late season with the archery permit. If you can't hunt the early, you've still got the late.

Was down in the winston unit last Sunday. Didn't see any signs that it was closed for fire danger. Did see what looked to be a weyerhauser employee driving behind one of the gates
