This one was about 75 yards from me. It took maybe 5 minutes for this one to show up. He thought I was nuts I guess. Probably heard from his cousin that I pulled a pistol on him........... :chuckle:

I told you I'd give you reports. All very good reports. I used the same call as the other one I called in Sunday. It sure is a rush, especially when I can get pictures too. That's proof in my book that they work instead of saying they work.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but IMHO your making a mistake calling in bears prior to the season.  All game animals become much harder to call in after they have been called in and educated.  Be it turkeys, elk, coyotes or bears.  Your only going to make it harder for yourself or others to call these bears in again.  Also give this some thought.  I have on a couple of ocassions called in bears and after sizing them up decided I did not want to shoot them, too small, however they became aggressive.  I always carry pepper spray as an alternative to shooting them.  If you go out and purposely call in a bear and then have to shoot it out of self defense you will probably be charged, and probably should be charged, with hunting bear out of season.  Just something to keep in mind.

Nobody around here that I know of, calls bears. Also, the 2 bears were miles apart from each other. So I think it wouldn't be a problem since I go to different spots. I hear what you are saying though. Thanx for the info. Also, our season doesn't start here until September. Bears are like women and have short memories..... :chuckle:

Campmeat, any size to them? I saw 5 out there last year, but they were all fairly small. I've been holding out for a big one.

This first one on Sunday was maybe 200ish. The 2nd one was maybe 150-200. I could tell it was smaller because he had a lot of ground clearance. The first one was kinda of in the brush on a very steep hill. Still nice coats though.

I tell the turkey hunters the same ... goin out before season and callin does not help .... exspecially ELK ... but whats a guy to do when he is pumped to go huntin....

CAMPMEAT is right about one thing, very few guys are out calling bears, even during the season, so it is unlikely to cause much of a problem.  Unlike turkey and elk where every Tom, Dick and Harry is out blowing a crow call or bugling.  I just thought I'd throw it out there, if you go into an area you intend on hunting once the season rolls around and you call in a real hog and have to scare him off you'll regret calling him in, because bears are very smart and next time will be that much harder, if not impossible to duplicate.

I normally just go drive around during bear season and tell the westsiders where to look. Not really, I just drive around just like everybody else and hope I'll see one. I have a sh1t load of timber land behind my house that is gated. That's where I go.
