Report Wolf Sightings Here - Hunting-Washington Wolf Count 158+
« Reply #420 on: December 04, 2012, 09:05:20 PM »
A friend of mine was playing frisbee golf near Greenwater this week and was attacked by what he described as a "thin mangy brown husky looking dog with big fangs". He is 6' 6" at it charged him, leapt 4 feet in the air, and bit him on the bicep. If he was shorter it would have been his throat. Could have been a stray or hybrid but I urged him to notify the WDFW.

Update 12/6 my friend talked to the WDFW. They said a breeder had let 20 hybrids go without food for several weeks and some of them escaped. This is what they think attacked him.

More wolf pics from my trapper friend who WDFW should hire to document Washington's wolves. This guy has got the location of numerous undocumented wolves figured out, just in his spare time.

This is why we think there are 2 packs in GMU 105. Lots of sightings on the Northport (east) side and there are sightings on the Orient (west) side.

Nov 3, 2011 wolf picture is on the east side of GMU 105 near Northport.

Man your guy seems to really know his stuff. The WSDFW should hire him. My only questions would be the following......

What value can he bring the game department if they were to hire him? Don't they already have biologists tracking wolves down and accounting for them?

Say they hire him and confirm additional wolf packs. Are they going to do anything about the packs? My guess; probably not so they are not going to spend the little money they have to hire a guy to tell them stuff they probably already know.

I am not very educated on wolves, but I am curious to learn and read your thoughts on what is happening today and how you think they should manages wolves in the future. I would also like to read what you think will eventually happen in the future. Perhaps Wa becomes a draw state to kill a wolf.

As far as I am concerned. Kill every wolf in Wa. I don't want anything to do with wolves. If I see one and I feel I am in danger; I am going to take my chances with the game department and shoot it. I would rather be alive to explain why I shot it, then show up on the front page of the Seattle Times for getting shredded by the pack. Especially if I had my young boys with me. Family first...

Went to the bank this morning and told them I was gonna go wolf hunting in Idaho soon. The gals pipes up and says, My husband saw 2 in the past couple weeks on Boulder Pass going to the shop. She said she thought it was the westside of the pass (Orient side). That's, maybe 5 miles sw of Orient. She will let me know where next time I see her.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I noticed this wolf count hasn't increased for months now.  I'm under the impression whoever (I think isDale) has given up on keeping track.  All of the packs have their pups running with them now.   The Lookout Pack had two pups that made it to grown up size so instead of the two, there are now 4.   A month ago the two pups were just a little smaller than the female (mom) and tagging close.  The male wasn't with them when spotted but I know a hunter that did see all 4 together.  Multiple tracks have been seen in the Methow this summer many miles from the Lookout Pack but only one sighting was reported to me and that was up by Sullivan Pond in the Pearrygin unit.  A bear hunter had 3 big wolves come in on him when he was calling in bear with his rabbit call in Sept..   WDFW seems to want pictures, scat and dna samples and even then they won't believe it till they trap one.  By that time the pack has grown to 8 or more.  It does appear they are stepping up to reports and do some checking, unlike 4 yrs. ago when they just turned a deaf ear.  I'd say Dales count of 158 is still a ways behind the actual number.

I have reported 2 wolf sightings out of Tampico in unit 368 to WDFW one was a gray phase the other a black phase both wolves were up in the Ewe Neck. Did see a calf elk that had been killed recently in the very near vicinity of where the gray phase was seen. We were told by the locals that there were no wolves in the area according to WDFW ummm yeah nice try kids as many of the camps in there had seen tracks or the actual critters.

Everyone, please keep reporting your wolf sightings here. This is the best way to keep WDFW somewhat accountable on wolf sightings. This topic currently has over 57,000 views.

I have been busy, but when I get time I will go through this topic and update the wolf count.

Talked to my stepdad today and he was telling me he saw a really big dog, almost twice the size of a german sheppard, dark hair on its back and lighter towards the stomach.  Biggest dog he had ever seen.  It was this weekend and he was snowmobiling in about 2 feet of snow just south and east of Reecer Creek road and Wilson Creek Road intersection of GMU 328, this would be a little closer towards Ellensburg from Lions Rock if you know the area, right at the edge of the bun area.  He said it was running across the road and moving very well in the deep snow.  He was just amazed at how big it was and thought it must be a wolf.  I told him it probably was and that I had heard rumors from two other property owners in the area seeing what they thought were wolves also.

Not a good sign, I will be keeping the kids closer to my cabin and not letting them roam so much.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

One of my buddy live in Wentachee and he talked to me that he know a guy that got wolves on his webcam and its a pregnant female wolf confirmed by Fish/wildlife what he said. Also There are three others wolves that F/G are tracking too.  I am wait to hear more from buddy, his friend Rancher, or Fish/game soon.

There possible new pack could hang out "SouthWest of Wentachee" Between Jumpoff ridge all way to Horse lake Mt somewhere around there. Female Wolf might birth new pups soon somewhere between.....  :)

I will get more info if I hear from him with new info or WDFW possible post their website soon.  I could be wrong.

To confirm mulehunter, I cut one lone fresh track in the mission unit several days ago. I passed along the photo and exact location to a bio that works for WDFW.
