Did you have access up the Taneum Rd. at Elk Heights or is the area closed to motorized vehicles?

I was there 2 weeks ago taneum rd is open all the way to the end of the pavement. Then the road that goes to the right was closed.

ditto that,  just got home from 3 days up there.   Sure seems like they are staying a lot lower with all the feed.  Was so excited to see so many
healthy calfs.

i seen 4 calfs for every 5 cows i seen, also quite a few spikes aswell that i dont count in my bull numbers.

i plan on scouting 335 and 328 a little more. but sense they are true spike units i have been focusing on 336 which i know better

No elk left in 335 wolves killed them all.  328 and 336 are next.

If the summer keeps holding up as being cool you won't have to worry about hiking to the high country because the elk will still be in the lower elevations in that area.  I was up the audobon last year and had to really get back in there last year because summer was lingering longer than it wanted to but now that this year is dragging out into a cool summer the elk seem to be hanging out in the lower elevations longer and hopefully won't trek into the high country for long?

Seen lot of elk up in the audobon but didn't harvest any last year.  Seen lot of deer as well going up the audobon.  Got fooled by a rock pit in that area and went all the way down there and found out it was a dead end then, had to turn around and go all the way back up, don't make the same mistake the rocks at the bottom are pretty jagged.

Help me remember, does this mean there is access to the 3330 now?

nope:

The following Forest Service Roads are closed to motorized use due to flood damage.  It is unlikely that these roads will open to public travel in 2011.

Road No. 3100 is closed from the Sno-Park to Barber Springs Road
Roads No. 3111, 3111-112, 3111-115, 3111-117, 3120, 3330 and 3330-127 are closed
Road No. 3350 is closed from mile post 1.6 to the junction with Road No. 3350-119
When traveling on Forest Service roads please remember to stay on the road.  Do not leave the road to go around a snow drift, downed log, muddy area or debris.  The road will likely be blocked by another obstacle within a short distance and the damage you do to the shoulder of the road and the adjoining land is unsightly, unhealthy for the environment and is costly to repair.

Hopefully a few will stick around for me.  Ive hunted this area for around ten years now and this was the first time ive been there in the summer and i was amazed at how many elk i saw compared to during the season.  are there always quite a few in the summer and they just go high before season or what?

one summer I saw a heard of around 100 elk at the very bottom on the grass hills.  During the season, next to nothing (:

Used to go up there all the time in the summer, see deer and elk all over the place.
I even have pictures somewhere from the 4th of July up on Gnat Flat of 30+ Elk and a couple nice bulls standing in the open field next to road and 4 camps visible in picture.
They know when it is season !
we also had a spike follow us for over a mile one time, like he expected us to throw feed out the back of truck.

typical summers. every year camping all summer i see elk everywhere...this year though is the best ive seen in a very very long time.

every drainage ive scouted has been full of elk. every powerline ive talked has been full of elk. every corner i have went around has had elk.

and....the deer have been out in force aswell in teanum. i think im up to 7 legal bucks so far, which is pretty good i guess. cause i havent seen very many legal bucks in teanum the last 5 years

I've noticed the deer as well saw four legal bucks and one that really was above standard. Really looks good up there right now

definately. not to get this way off track.

but i did notice every buck i have seen was a benchleg with full blacktail tails not that half muley/blacktail tail, as far east as cle elum. usually i dont care nor pay attention to this but this year i decided to keep a little more detailed log.

BUT 90% of the does i have seen were pure muley. well ok maybe not pure...but they did not show any blacktail characteristics at all.

There's a lot up there. I got one with a few years back up there that seemed all blacktail except for his face. Noticed them alot during elk season mainly when I see deer are about 50/50 blacktail and Mulie.

I went over and looked around Sunday for most of the day.  Didn't see any elk but I did spend most of the day hanging a new stand.

We went up scouting this past weekend but went high, snow level is lower then I have ever seen for this time of year and we only saw a couple elk  :bash:. Either the bad weather and snow levels are keeping them down this year or it’s the lack of pressure with the road closures in the lower elevations. Either way I’m getting the feeling it’s going to be a much different year then years past.

That's why I try to scout as much as I can every year.   I work with a couple guys that say they don't need to scout because they've been hunting the same spot for 20 years.
