Glad you had a great time- it is a fun - but crowded place.  I ran those areas for 10 years- miss it for sure, especially this time of year...  Love those Greenie Backs...  The second run of Sockeyes is the very best.  Bigger fish and waaaaaaayyy more plentiful than the first run.  The confluence area gets hit hard by shear numbers of people.  My favorite walking place is either way up the Russian or down along the Kenai under the power lines...  Alot of folks don't realize it but these fish run the line of water a couple feet off shore, too many people try wading out and causes the fish to go deeper.  We would walk the river and had days of C & R 100 reds on 8-10# fly rods..  Oh - I miss it....  We normally didn't keep any as we were already allotted 55 Reds via dip netting that lasted my family and friends ogles of Salmon for the year..

Glad you were able to go. I hope to make it up one of these days.

Thanks guys. I had a blast. I guess they went out on the halibut charter today. My cousin told me that on their boat they caught somewhere between 50 and 60 fish. It sounds like they didn't get any over 25 lbs but had a hell of a time with so many fish. Sounds like they might have been catching and releasing until later in the day hoping to catch some bigger ones.
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

My son, teacherman for those of you who know him, is fishing on the kenai right now.  Staying in a motor home and having to fish all day.  Poor guy.
