2nd deer ???
« on: July 20, 2011, 08:34:50 PM »
A friend of mine drew a 2nd deer permit (rifle) and was wondering if he had to fill his general  tag first before filling the 2nd tag... I told him I would ask the experts on here....

No, it is a seperate tag for an anterless animal in a specific GMU.
Page 74 of 104 says nothing about taking your general tag first.

I will take my second deer first (unless a big buck walks in front of me)...then the leftover tag (archery) can go to a big buck or a doe.  If you use the general first (on a doe), you can only get another doe.

I'd like to say you're f'n with us.. but in the case you're not. Read the app. 2nd deer does not apply to the general permit. If it coincides, you pick. Most likely it won't.. but I can't say for sure not knowing your tag. Bottom line - check your tag. Check the regs. Next time check your app.

Not really sure while the hostility is needed here?  :dunno: I agree that a guy could read and probably figure it out but I could also see where a guy could assume he needed to fill the general tag before pursuing the second tag. If you can't say something nice, might as well just not say anything all bud   :hello:

Ok. I apologize, sorry, really. As it is, I have a hard time with folks not understanding the regs. But there isn't an excuse. Sorry for the hostility.

You do not have to purchase a second deer tag if drawn.  It is optional.  The current price is $26 and may increase on September 1.  You do have to purchase one if you want to hunt for a second deer.  You may purchase one up to the last date of the 2nd tag's season.

All second deer tags are antlerless only.

Each second deer tag has specific requirements as to open areas and season dates.  The second deer tag can only be used during these times and in these locations.  The seasons and hunt locations may overlap with a general tag, and they may not.

The second deer tag must be of the same type (Modern, Muzzleloader, Archery) as the primary tag.

You can use tags in any order, as long as each is used legally.

Hey KopperBuck ,Who pissed in your cheerios dude?? It was a simple question. I read and know the rules and regulations but I was not 100% positive on this one.. I figured it was a separate hunt completely and didnt matter but did not want to give advice unless I was sure..

Does 2nd deer mean 2 bucks? Sure looks like it, it does say 2nd deer, that means anything right? And that means I'm good on mulie or WT, b/c it's a deer, right?

Look man, I'm sorry my cheerios were pissed in, it was harsh, I apologize. I have personal experience from something like this almost going to chit. But I just have a nerve that gets pinched for folks applying for tags without understanding what they mean. Not knowing a unit I can accept, but throwing in your cash b/c it's an extra animal... not so much. We shouldn't be picking tags with Ouija boards is all I'm saying. As Sportsmen we need to be responsible.

Thanks for asking for your friend, I'm glad now he can make the right decision. But please, make an informed decision beforehand.

My second deer tag is for the month before my regular season tag  :yike:.. if I have to fill my regular season tag before my second tag I am going to need a time machine  :dunno:.

I guess that will make my regular season tag my second tag and my second tag my first tag....right?

Just kidding  :sry: I like the questions folks ask on this board, I like the responses even more most of the time. It is funny how everyone reads replies differently. Makes for some good entertainment (most of the time). :chuckle: :chuckle:
