Missing Trail Cam
« on: July 25, 2011, 11:35:01 AM »
Went out to check a camera and it was gone.  I've had a camera stolen in the past, but his time I think a bear may have packed it off.  I've had bears mess with my cameras, but never pack one off.  My questions is if a bear packed it off have far would he carry it?

Well that would probably depend on the bear. I have had them just rip it off the tree and know it down the hill. Chances are its not far as once they discover its not edible they leave it alone.

I had a brand new camera that was gone when I went to check this past weekend. I am also fairly confident it was a bear. I never found the camera but the bungee straps were at the base of the tree and one of the springs was stretched out.

On my last cam check I had a pic of a bear forehead. I've got my camera boxed, spiked, and bolted to the tree. I hope he got a 3 inch screw to the nose.

The bear that ripped mine off the tree actually carried it about 40 plus yards. The last pic of him was just of his head as he sniffed the camera and the remaining pics were of the sky since the camera was laying on the ground facing up when I found it. I did not take the extra steps that time to spray it down with scent away spray, but it was also a possibility that the flash pissed him off too. At first I thought some other person had ripped it down until I noticed that there was teeth marks everywhere on the case of it.
