One thing about w/t's this time of year. They come out into the fields, almost always the same fields every evening. If this buck is in a field by a road do the math. You are driving around looking at deer in fields and you see a nice buck, I think I will access the land next to it, put out some feed and my trail cam. EZ to be on the same buck.
Back when Alwine was a snot nose kid and worked for a farmer who had a big buck coming out in his fields got the whole farm locked up so he could hunt this buck. :bash: This farm was on the game dept.'s posted land and you had to have written permission to hunt the land. The game dept. posted it and patrol it. The farmer and his wife are very goods friends of my family and I worked for him several summers. I took his son hunting for the first time, was with him when he shot his first duck. Anyway, my Dads farm was next to this farm where this big buck was coming out so I called to get my written permission to hunt and found out it was locked up. I did voice my opinion about my game dept. money being used for one person. To top it off he was hunting w/a good hunting buddy of mine for this buck. :bash: Hay, more power to him. I would have done the same on this buck. I just didn't like the idea of my license money being used to lock up land for one person. Never did hear if he got that buck.  BTW, the framer and his wife are still good friends and this didn't end our friend ship.

He is a older buck, I would guess 6 if I had to pick a number but wouldn't put money on that.. I'm sure he is atleast 5 though.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have never seen this deer anywhere near a field... He is more of a mountain buck..

@PA - I think we were all just joking on taking this buck from these two. Just saying.

Glad that didn't ruin your friendship (if it happened). My hubby has ran into that problem before too just not with close friends, but with farmers who only give tags out to certain people. . .kinda sucks but that is private land hunting for you. . .I think. . .  maybe that is why my hubby does alot of public land hunting. . .not a huge knowledged (<--pretty sure that is my own special vocab there for ya!! LOL!) hunter about that kinda stuff. But I can see where you are coming from. . . sorry if my opinion was not wanted.  :)
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

By the way Matt. I need to meet up with ya sometime, I was going through some of my sheds the other day and I think I have a set to the wide one that Bobby took last year. Remember the one that my brother posted the picture of the next day. :chuckle:

Don't know how I missed your comment...

That would be awesome to see! He was a new buck to us and just seeing his sheds would be sweet!

As far as the situation PA Ben is talking about (since we are on the subject)
I didn't even know I had locked the land down. I was 16 at the time and I think the landowners wife was looking out for me to try and get a buck.. If I remember correctly the buck I ended up killed was probably about a 70" 4x4 :IBCOOL: lol
