mud flow bulls
« on: August 08, 2011, 02:24:09 PM »
What would be considered "a big bull" for the mudflow unit.I've always hunted the trout lake area so a 275 plus is what I would consider on the big side for that area. but now that I have a Mf tag i have been up 6 times and what I'm seeing is not much bigger. Don't get me wrong there are some great bulls  up there and it is early but is holding out for a 300+ a reasonable goal or is this a overated unit.   Ps.  I plan on eating my tag if I don't see what I want.

300 bull in there is a big streatch. You find a 270 bull you better shoot. I know about 1/2 a handfull of bulls that have made 300 out of that area and surrounding.

Better get scouting. There are plenty of nice larger bulls there and good access to them if you know your way around  ;)

Just keep in mind longbow, Im pretty OK at scoring bulls on the hoof and most people I talk to that say they seen 350 bulls in there are about 75 inches off. I spent my whole life down there and know what there is. Good luck and if you get lucky and find that 1 in 500 type bull over 300 more power to you!! There is a few but way far and few between.

:yeah: I agree with Charlie.  I am no expert for sure on scoring.   But I do know if you play the score this bull game with charlie most people wont win.  Ok Charlie dont get a big head now :chuckle: :chuckle: I wish he was wrong with his post because I have the tag myself.   But it is what it is.  I have spent alot of time up there over time.  Man it sucks getting old.  I also have friends that have grown up in the area there whole life.   I dont consider it a trophy hunt as far as high scoring bulls go.  But it is a great chance and getting a decent bull and I think any bull with a bow is a good bull.
but like everyone says there is always a chance at a 300 inch bull in any unit.  I can count on one hand how many bulls that I would say was over 300 in there and most of them are farther up the mountian.  but like I said I am no expert.  Just my  :twocents:

Thanks Charlie now everyone knows where the best elk unit in the state is.  Just because you did not draw it and drew that other tag where there is no elk  ;) you did not have to mess it up for the rest of us.   :chuckle:
