Canvas Tent water treatments

We have a new 15X20 canvas tent that we used for the first time last season. Problem is it leaked about as bad as a fishing net. What do you all recomened for Waterproofing this summer so we can take care of the problem..... Thanks for the advice in advance!

Canvak canvas preservative is the best we have found, Cabelas sells it and you can find it online

Buy 2-3 gallons and you can apply it with a pump sprayer, And repeat every 3yrs.

Not to be a smart azz but, why is your new tent leaking? It shouldn't be leaking... 
Is it leaking "through" the canvas or at the seams?

buy a tarp, also did you shrink it by setting it up in the sun and then soak it, this helps but if you want 100% water proof buy a tarp

Was the tent supposed to be treated?

I bought numerous new tents 3-4 years ago and they are all still waterproof after much use. I wonder if you should contact the company from which you got the tent.

If you are stuck with the tent, then the tarp idea is probably the best idea for definitely keeping out the water. I tarp all my older tents and have no leakage.

a tarp over it will make the preservative last longer.  and helps maintain the heat in the tent better.

I don't know if that was the brand name I used on my tent trailer canvas and boat cover, but what I used had an odor  for quite some time.
If you are gonna do it. Put it on now and leave it set up for several days or preferably weeks to "air out"

I know when I got mine I was told to set it up, get it wet inside and out and let it dry in the sun to shrink the fabric and seams.  I have had it for 7 years with no problems.

:yeah:You should have to set it up in the sun and soak it in water, I did this with my new tent inside and out. It is a montana canvas tent and is working great, I also do use a tarp though so I assume it's waterproof.
