A great weekend of fishing in the ocean.
« on: August 22, 2011, 08:05:52 PM »
Took a weekend fishing trip to Ilwaco and Westport with Ribka to fish for it all...well not Halibut  :chuckle:

Ribka and I started our weekend fishing for tuna after a short 5hr rest Fri. night. The harbor was great but once we got past the bar the water got rough. We traveled out 55 miles to the warm water of the tuna grounds. Spent the day being beat to hell by the water, trying to catch tuna. We ended up catching 8 tuna for 5 people. The tuna was there but the water was so rough, every time we caught a fish and stopped to reel it in we were blow out off the fish and had to find them again. This was my fist tuna expedition and probably not my last.
after getting back in the harbor after dark, we headed to Westport for our next adventure.

After another short nights rest we headed out to catch our limit of salmon, lings, and rock fish. We traveled out about 20 miles and found a school and set out the gear. It was Yellow tail's so we changed gear and caught our limit and headed out in search for salmon. We caught most our salmon and decided to go get our lings after the salmon slowed down a bit, or should I say, a bit more  :chuckle: we caught our limit of lings and ran back to finish off our limits of salmon. Over all it was slow day for salmon. Only 2 kings in the boat and we kept one pink to finish off our limits.

It was dark before we got back to the boat launch, cleaned all the fish and got out of there. We did not get back to my place until 12:30am and Ribka still had to drive back to Sehla,a and boy did feel sorry for him, we were both tired and had to work this morning, but it was a fun weekend, even if we did get our a$$es handed to us by the weather on Sat.  :bash:

Here are  a few pic. I took with my cell phone and I hope Ribka post some more pic. of our trip, I did not get any pic. of the salmon we caught (battery went dead on the cell).

Ribka reeling in the first Tuna.

Ribka's first Tuna.

My first Tuna I caught, ever.........

Fishing for Yellow Tail and some of the fish we caught.

Damn good eating, that's a lot of time on the water.  I would have used up all my patches (for seasickness) but it would have been worth it.  Nice job guys, I love catching lings and bass. No way will you see me that far out in the ocean, so no tuna for me. Thanks for posting.

The ocean really beat us up the first day while chasing offshore tuna.

It was a guy Ribka know that fishes every weekend some where, and when I say every weekend, I mean every weekend.

Good luck this weekend, you will be traveling far to find them. The water dont start to raise in temp. untill about 40 miles out. And the Tuna derby is this weekend down there
