I took my good friend Jim out for our first Humpy trip of the year and were not disappointed. He is a retired commercial fisherman and loves to go fishing as much as I do. I have been reading all the reports about the Humpys getting thick at Possesion but my boats a little small for that area, so we headed for one of our favorite spots just south of Kayak Point. The day started out with the typical long line at the boat ramp when the gates finally opened but we had got there an hour early and were the fourth boat to launch. A short run south and we had our lines in the water, casting pink jigs and pink buzz bombs in about 20 feet of water. It was a little slow for awhile but then at low slack it really picked up. Small schools of fish cruising by and they just couldn't get enough of the pink jigs. We ended up with 5 in the ice box and 4 that managed to get away. About noon we pulled in the crab pots and headed for home with 8 nice Dungies and our fish for the smoker!!! Ended the day by having a great crab feed with our wives and telling almost true stories about hunting and fishing trips from years gone by!!!

Nice job guys! That spot used to be called 2 trees, til some one cut one down, now its one tree, one stump. lol
Nice hole there, and they love to school up next to the grey equiptment shack inside the cove to the south.

The numbers of fish we saw were still fairly small. I think by this coming weekend it should be really good in that area. Two years ago we fished mostly with pink Buzz Bombs but I think pink jigs are working better. Stay in 15-20 feet of water, let the jig sink about 5 feet and just twitch it back to the boat. Should be easy limits on the incoming tide. A couple of my grandsons, ages 8 and 13, are going to be visiting this weekend and I will be taking them out to experience Humpy carnage. They live in Tri-Cities and have never caught salmon before so should be a trip they will remember for a long time!!!!
