Tannerite exploding targets

This years regs spell it out too MasonctyHitman.  Here's a quote from the regulations.  Kinda backs up the RCW I found previously.

The firearms and target practicing rule prohibits
the use of glass, signs, appliances, mattresses,
televisions, furniture, and exploding items as
targets.

     That rule is for WDFW lands. I don't know about the legality elsewhere. I would assume it is at least legal on a person's own private property. But public lands I doubt it. Especially with the likelyhood of the exploding targets starting a fire.

 It must be mixed on site, illegal to transport in a pre mixed state, and must be used on private land. Therefore if said exploding targets already contain a mixed explosive yes they would be illegal.

I have used the stuff, and technically it is a form of black powder not an explosive.. i think you are allowed 50lbs of black powder per federal law...

I'm a bit confused on this one. I see all these posts regarding the prohibition of tannerite here in WA. State, yet I have been buying exploding targets containing tannerite from Big Five for years. It must have something to do with quantity. I just bought some more the other day, and they come in the mixed state. You would think if it wasn't legal, they couldn't sell it here.

Tannerite IS legal to buy, posses, and use in Washington. Period.

You cant use it on state land from what I see in the rcw, and just cause its sold here doesnt me you can use it every where. They sell expanding broad heads here but they arnt legal to use

I never said you could use it on state lands.  I'd suggest you research where it is legal to use, just as with an expandable broadhead.  My simple point is that it is legal to buy, posses, and use in this state.

you can also buy the banned mole traps in most feed/farm/garden stores.....just because washington bans the use of something doesnt mean it bans stores from selling it especially if its legal everywhere else  this is America still even if it seems like its China

expandable broadheads are only illegal for big game. They are legal for small game.

I know as for explosives Id be really carefull right now, the batfe has laws on storage and etc.

It also affects those who ship, transport or cause to be transported, or receive explosive materials. Also, see 18 U.S.C. 845 and 27 CFR 555.141 for exemptions."

“explosives” means any chemical compound mixture, or device, the primary or common purpose of which is to function by explosion; the term includes, but is not limited to, dynamite and other high explosives, black powder, pellet powder, initiating explosives, detonators, safety fuses, squibs, detonating cord, igniter cord, and igniters.

basicly as long as its not mixed your ok. If you mix it you need a atf licenses to have it.

Are binary explosives subject to regulation under Federal explosives laws "Until the compounds are mixed, they are not classified as explosives and, therefore, are not subject to control. However, once mixed, binary explosives are “explosive materials” and are subject to all applicable Federal requirements. A person who mixes or combines compounds of binary explosives for the purpose of sale or distribution or for the person’s own business use is a “manufacturer” of explosive materials and must be licensed as a manufacturer under the law. It also states once you have mixed the stuff you got to follow regs on how far one part of it is from the mixed explosive.

There doesn't have to be a law saying that you can do something to make it legal. With broadheads the regs say expandables illegal for big game. Much same as no law saying that you can shoot tannerite. Only laws saying where you cannot shoot tannerite. You can buy it and there is no law saying yyou can't use it on your own property (that I am aware of). So therefore shoot away...

On tannerite.com is says that they have proven in court this stuff to be legal in all 50 states.

Ok, lets at least get one thing straightened out here. Yes I know just because you can buy something in a store doesn't mean it is legal...like broadheads and yes mole traps. Lets get real....we aren't talking about that. If an explosive compound is illegal in a state, it is heavily regulated and you will NOT be able to buy it unless you are licensed to use it. So that being said, yes it is legal, yes you can use it and buy it in this state and no you can not use it in some areas....ie: within city limits, national parks, game preserves, protected watersheds and some state lands. As usual it is always best to check with the local authorities.

The thing is in binary form it's not regulated tell it's mixed then you can run in to problems. Just like furtalizer and diesel neither is regulated tell you mix the two and get an explosive.
