Tannerite exploding targets
« on: August 29, 2011, 06:53:07 AM »
I saw an add for a product called Tannerite exploding targets. I watched the video on it and according to them it can be shipped by UPS. The product is a binary exploding product. You have to mix two powders together and shake very well. It takes a high velocity rifle bullet to ignite it. In the video they used 1 1/2 pounds and it totally destroyed a 5 gallon bucket that was put on bricks above the bottle containing the Tannerite.

My question is has anyone purchased and used this. It looks like it could be fun. I don't think I could use it at the rifle range that I use.

The site that I saw this on is USAammo.com and is one of the items that they offer.

Thanks

I've always heard it's not legal in Washington. I can't confirm or deny that but you might want to do some looking before you start blowing chit up.

Yes, it is legal here in WA unless something has changed in the last couple of months.  Fun stuff.

Legal in WA, and the kits are sold in most gun/sporting goods stores.  You only put a small amount in the targets, but be careful where you shoot them, especially here in Eastern WA.  They can start a fire.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I'm sure nothing has changed...I just heard the talk that it was not legal. I've never looked into it because I've never had any interest in it. It does look fun though.

I've never used them either, but a friend got some to take along pistol shooting and stuck them to a paper target, and every time he hit one I would run up to stomp out the smoldering paper.

I don't know specifically about tannerite.  A quick look online at the RCW's brought this up.  Is it relevant to tannerite or is tannerite exempt?

RCW 70.74.022 (in short):

"License required to manufacture, purchase, sell, use, possess, transport, or store explosives -- Penalty -- Surrender of explosives by unlicensed person -- Other relief.
(1) It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, purchase, sell, offer for sale, use, possess, transport, or store any explosive, improvised device, or components that are intended to be assembled into an explosive or improvised device without having a validly issued license from the department of labor and industries, which license has not been revoked or suspended. Violation of this section is a class C felony."

If you want to get your fix on exploding targets, then plan to go to Boomershoot.  They will be taking reservations for the 2012 event shortly.

I went last year and it was a LOT of fun!

This years regs spell it out too MasonctyHitman.  Here's a quote from the regulations.  Kinda backs up the RCW I found previously.

The firearms and target practicing rule prohibits
the use of glass, signs, appliances, mattresses,
televisions, furniture, and exploding items as
targets.
