Why are people posting where they kill their elk?!
« on: September 14, 2011, 04:22:09 PM »
There are like 3 threads running now where guys are advertising where they are killing their elk.  I am a rifle hunter and don't get to be out there until November, and there's all of these posts with pictures of elk killed in the area I hunt.  I just rubs me the wrong way.  Everyone's welcome to do their own thing but I wish people would not advertise to the damn little detail where they are seeing/killing all of these elk.  Unit plus pictures and/or descriptions of major landmarks, roads, mountains, etc.  Might as well post a map with GPS coordinates.  Do you not want to keep your area's less populated, and force other hunters to work at finding elk just like we all have had to over the years?

Ok, I'm done venting.  Hopefully I didn't offend anyone and I hope you get where I'm coming from.

Buckmark, judging from your avatar, you don't like my thread.

I agree. if you really want to share with someone send a PM. But everyone is free to do as they wish and I can't say that I haven't at least looked into information about places I've learned about on here (haven't actually hunted any of them).

Too funny.   No harm, no foul.   I doubt too many internet elk hunters are getting their animals by looking at pics.

P.S.   Please do not post pics of elk taken from where I hunt.

I will say that 99% of the time, all I ever see in a successful elk hunting story, is the GMU the elk was taken. To me that isn't much of an issue. Anyone can look at harvest reports and see the units where the majority of the elk are killed.

I use areas being posted as places NOT to go figuring that everybody and their brother will be there now. So I guess it has been useful

a smart guy might look up harvest reports instead of a 3 or 4 guys "white lying" or misdirecting others about there success  :dunno: i love my fellow hunter but when i talk to someone out in the hills i never really take their information to serious... :bdid:

If people really follow hype over a picture on the internet that someone SAYS they got in a certain area and travel there to hunt essentially blind, I'm not too worried about them - They're crazy to chase something like that.

Harvest reports show more about the area than a couple of guys posting pictures of bulls they harvested during the rut.  Lots of bulls are killed every year in areas with limited elk populations solely because of the rut.  A couple pictures of these elk doesn't necessarily mean it's a good place to hunt, and any out of towner willing the pony up the fuel to chase a picture posted on the internet can be my guest and waste the fuel money. Bet they'll only do that once.   :dunno:

Also, I think it would take a seriously desperate hunter to base their decisions on where to hunt on pictures and a potentially erroneous story/location.
