I'm in port Angeles for the weekend and looking for something to do. Any fishin reports or places to look into. I brought my steelhead gear and was thinkin about hitting the Quilcene. Appreciate any info

The Quilcene is a small area to fish...from the hatchery down stream and it would probably be cohos.  The Sol Duc has some fish coming in too.  With this little bit of rain, there should be salmon coming up all the nearby rivers.

Quil had quite a few salmon running a week and half ago when we were there. Saw plenty of people getting fish (9 yr. old nephew even caught one). Can't say how it's doing now. Pic below are the fish not yet in the open area, can't see it well but they go all the way up to the corner (at least).

hahaha.  Best snagging creek in the area.  If you are actually looking to fish, do not go to the Quil.

It's called fishing for a reason, not snagging.  If you can't fish legally... then don't.

From what I hear the Quil is either done or close to being done.  If you don't want to head to the West End, then maybe try the Dungeness River.  Seems to get a decent hatchery coho run starting up in the next week and a half to two weeks.

anyone who knows anything about fishing salmon in a river knows you either get real lucky by flossing one , irritate one by hitting it in the face with your bait or whatever and it bites at it , or you snag one and maybe get lucky enough for it to be in the mouth.

Maybe you should get off your soap box there silverdalesauer and madison. Fish the mouths or the bay if you are so concerned with making sure it is in the mouth. I am afraid that is the only way you will do it other than like i said , getting darn lucky.

Snagging is not the only way to catch fish in rivers.  Some runs bite better than others for sure, but there are tons of salmon in rivers that bite.  If you can't get a fish to bite in the river don't blame the fish.  It is your skill as a fisherman.

Like it or not.  A fish that has a hook in the gillplate forward is legal.  Now I am sure if someone yanks the rod nine times per drift is a separate issue
