Bumping bull down!
« on: September 16, 2011, 12:13:51 PM »
Packed in to Apple lake a week ago with two horses, been getting into bulls everday.  Passed on three bulls, got close to several more, but couldn't get a shot, so after a week of mtn. house and eastern brook trout, we were running out of food, so we packed up and headed out for lower country.  Well, we got down to the trailhead and we were re-packing one of the horses when a bull ripped out a nasty bugle only about 100 yards away, so we looked at each other and said "let give it a try"  So the hunter grabbed his bow, I grabbed my calls and we sprinted across the campground to the edge of the river.  The bull was across the riverbed from us, so I do a little calling, and next thing ya know, here he comes.  He comes across the riverbed and up onto the bank that we are on and stops at 40 yards broadside.  The hunter drew, took his time and made a sweet shot, the bull spins, runs back across the riverbed and then slowly walks up into the timber, so we sat down and had some lunch and gave him an hour.  After lunch we got on the blood and followed it for about 100 yards and found him tipped over.  We got the ponies right to him, quartered him up and loaded him and down the trail we went...great trip and great hunting, lots of bulls going nuts.

That is a dandy 5x5, congrats!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Nice bull.

So, how many brook trout does it take before one grows tired of them?
