It was a questionable shot. No one can argue that. The complaining about the road hunting is funny though. I am not one to spend the day hunting the road. I will take the opportunity to take a buck or a gobblers if presented the situation while I am driving. We don't know that these guys were strictly roadhunters or if this was an opportunity they exploited while heading to another hunting spots. I would bet that most everybody on here would take a buck from the roadside provided they could do so safely and legally. It would make an interesting poll. I think I will make one.

<snip>
Many times other hunters ( in this situation) can't see every thing that went down while this was filmed, so we were left to our own perceptions. when i watched this last night I wanted to hang my arrows up for good and was disgusted at the whooping and hollering and the suffering. but how many times have I disguised my own soft emotions after a kill as laughter for the sake of my company and manliness?

there is a much bigger picture than what was on youtube, and wether its right or wrong it sure as hell shouldn't have been put up for the whole world to judge.

I think that is what my issue is ... I know the "elation" of the kill, although I am fairly certain I've never whooped and hollered like that ... my issue is the video itself

"Shoot it in the azz"

The cheers, the hollerin'

Soundtracks are your friend, and this video screams out for one ...

As for the road hunting ... from the view of the jeep that we do get, and the 4 or 5 different voices that are heard ... I'm guessing (educated?  Hell, I doubt it's educated its just a guess) that they weren't heading for blinds ... not that many people in (what I'm assuming from the opening shot and the ones following it) 2 separate vehicles ... Not that I'm against road hunting per se ... I will admit to spotting birds and pulling up out of the way to get out and go track 'em down ... but never as a "ways and means" of getting my tag filled.  But that's just me.

The video ... needs less sound ... way less sound

There are layers here.... and best to say that this is an excellent anti-hunting film.    It would be better without the soundtrack for sure.
We all know killing an animal isn't pretty and that it's part of nature, but loudly celebrating while the animal is visibly suffering is a bit much.
My experience with Elk is to celebrate by cow calling and or being quiet so the animal doesn't get a shot of adrenalin.

Like it or not we need to be mindful of what we do, and the stories we tell so our children and their children will be able to hunt.   imho

Well stated!     i agree with everything!

So there's no confusion, i have NOT reacted to killing an animal like those guys did.  I HAVE spotted animals from a vehicle and moved in for the kill.  I HAVE made bad shots with rifle and bow.  i have NOT told someone to "shoot it in the @ss" or filmed my hunts or an animal in distress and posted it for the world to see.  I didn't see them do anything "illegal".  distasteful, yes, but bad taste isn't against the law.   :twocents:

If you watch the first few seconds of the video the Jeep with the big guy in it is moving it pulls up to the others. They have a bow on top of the window 2 guys standing on it like they are trying to get to the highest point and also the cubby guy has a beer. Please try to tell me that you drive from spot to spot standing in the back of a Jeep with your bow sitting next to you. That is the classic signs of road hunting.

Also drinking the big guy has what appears to be Keystone Light can also the kid who goes to help the hunter take the final shot has what appears to be Keystone Light.
I can't beleive some of you who are saying the video is alright. He could of waited for a better shot also. This is why the anti-hunters and PETA hate us as hunters.  :bash: :bash: :bash:

if I had to cram three guys in a jeep I would put the bows on the roof also.
please prove that is a keystone light vs a regular keystone vs a energy drink.
there is road hunting, shooting from a vehicle moving or not, and taking advantage of a situation. since they weren't doing the middle of a freeway I Don't see a huge issue, and its surely not the biggest issue in this video.
its all about perception

This is why the anti-hunters and PETA hate us as hunters.  :bash: :bash: :bash:
Hate to tell ya there Mr. Never drank a beer in the woods, Mr. Never spotted an animal from the road, Mr. Never got into the back of the truck for a better vantage point, Mr. Never made a bad shot......Anti Hunters and PETA members hate every hunter equally.....It doesn't matter if you hunt like Bone and hike in 14 miles....or if you shoot from the road.....They don't care if you drink beer or bottled water......They don't care if you are standing in your truck or in a tree..... They hate all hunters.....Even you! I do agree the video was in very poor taste....but try not to  :puke: BS comments all over it!!! This is not why they hate us......they hate us for all aspects of the hunt....good or bad!

It sickened me to watch that clip.  I have never seen such a lack of respect for a game animal.  What I find more disturbing is that there are people on this site who think this is OK, or who are not at least outraged by the actions of people who will now be viewed publicly as "hunters."  By not condemning the actions of those who tarnish our name, you are adding fuel to the anti's fire.  And remember, it's not the anti's that we need to worry about, it is the vast majority of the non-hunting public who would see this video and be sickened as well.

Add some snow and it could be a scene from the late Swakane archery hunt...well except that they actually harvested the deer.   :chuckle:

These guys are definitely in the wrong, and the video should never have been put on the internet. But sometimes i think we as hunters are our worst enemy in more ways than one. The antis have an easy fight on there hands.

I agree with much of what you say.  in no way did i enjoy the video.  not a shot i would take, nor encourage.  but not illegal.  you're right about the 80 percent of the population vs. the anti's.  trouble is, once idiots put stuff like this out of the internet, it can be widely viewed and distributed.  that's why i encourage heavy editing or better yet, not youtubing it!

i dont celebrate the death of the animal i hunt, but death is the ultimate outcome of hunting.  no death is pretty, and some are worse than others.  this example was ugly, but in reality, pretty damn quick compared to a gut or flank shot.

as to condemning and being outraged... what will be the result?  are you going to change the way these fellas hunt by chastising them?  or will that just fracture the hunting community further, resulting in a less unified front against the anti's?  you don't agree with their method of hunting.  by the looks of the video, i don't either.  but we'll do better by promoting archery practices such as not taking low percentage shots and not drinking while hunting (if indeed they are).  there will always be people that take low percentage shots, make bad shots, road hunt, drink and hunt, shoot beyond their limits, make mistakes and generally screw up.  until the horn porn crowd and hunting competitions end, people will do whatever it takes to kill the big one, shoot farther for bragging rights and generally make asses of themselves.  but it's not limited to hunting.  there are people in this country now that can't afford health insurance, but by golly, they got themselves a big ol' flat screen, 22" rims on their $40,000 rig and a bag of weed for their night blindness.  poor hunting practices are only a symptom of a much larger problem.   :twocents:
