The rut and hot weather
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:31:37 PM »
Im debating on leaving tonight to go out elk hunting in the little belts for the weekend but its suppose to be in the upper 80s over here. It seems like the peak of the rut is usually this time of the year but im not sure how much action is going to be happening during the day if its gunna be this hot. I dont want to blow a hundred bucks on gas if theres not going to be much action. So what do you guys think? I need someone to help make me the decision lol

Go hunting.  Elk may not be as active mid-day, but will be active morning and night.  Plus, there is always a bull somewhere that will get fired up mid-day in the heat.

I would go for sure.  Just got back from a hunt and the bulls are responding to calling in the morning and evenings!

Well the bulls werent buglin out all and I didnt see an elk. Looks like the rut is over in this particular area and the elk have moved off for now. They did start really early in this particular are though had them buglin all over on the 10th so it doesnt really surprise me. And polarbear im open for suggestions  :)

The rut is on right now over here.  Had a bull wake me and the wife up this morning at 6:30 bulgling his head off.  He is going at it again tonight.  He is a sub legal bull but it is noce to play back and forth with him.  Just heard him again as I am typing this.
