« on: September 18, 2011, 06:06:52 PM »
i need to update my gps and found that the cable that comes with it needs to have a serial port open in back to use it.  my pc doesn't have an extra port.  now what do i do??

You can install a secondary COM port?
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

It is a part that you can install in your PC so that you have a COM/serial port to use! If you get up near Edmonds/Mukilteo anytime soon I should have the part here and would be able to put it in for you. If you have some computer savvy friends I would think one would be able to help you out with this.

EDIT:

I guess I should have picked up on this sooner, does your PC have a serial port that you are using for something else right now? If so just temporarily disconnect that and connect your GPS there!

They make a "serial to usb" conversion adapter cable....serial male on one end, USB at the other.  Try Best Buy.  Same problem several years ago when I got my Rino....new computers don't come with serial ports anymore.  Plug the Rino into the regular Rino cable, then the serial end plugs into the converter cable serial end, then the USB goes into any available USB port.  Easy and works.

 :yeah:
just take your cable to Best buy or radio shack and tell them you want a USB to what you have. That is what i have for mine.
