How many people use tree stands?
«

Let's hear what you use and how often, what type of animal are you hunting when you do use one?
I've used a ladder stand that we found in this swamp we used to hunt elk in and a climbing stand a couple of times.
I'm thinking about buying one now.

I bought a summit backpacker climbing stand and use it religiously. I used to be the archer that chased the elk all around, now I am ahead of those guys and let them push the elk to me. The stand is light, stable & comfortable.

I have a few different stands that we use... 1 climber and 4 stationary stands that we have ladder sets for. We use them for elk hunting and whitetails. Mainly whitetail hunting later in the fall but it has been very productive for elk too if you can get it in the right spot!

I have two ... I voted that I use them but not regularly. I will use them when the situation is right for the ambush!

Don't own 1 and never used 1. Will likely try this year though. Gonna see if I can kill a whitetail w/ a sharp stick.
What kind should I get? Treestand that is. I know what kind of whitetail I "SHOULD" get.

It's a personal preference. I like fixed stands. With the "T" bars I can go in around July and Aug, screw in my steps and my "T" bar and cut shooting lanes. Then I pull the steps, slide a twig in them so I can find the holes in the dark and leave the area till I hunt in the fall. I can slip in, in the dark, screw my steps in and slide my stand on the "T" bar and be hunting, it's nice and quiet. Ladder stands are too heavy for me if I have to go very far, so I tend not to move them enough. Climbing stands in my opinon are too heavy as well and way too nosiey setting up. Permanent stands are dangerous and make guys hunt the stand even when conditions are wrong, which means missed opportunities at big deer.

mikex is full of carp! Tree stands dont work at all!!! NOPE, they smell like cabbage and scare animals away for miles!! Yep. Almost impossible to kill anything from 20ft a tree...thats a fact! Ya cant go after them animals way over there...cant see very far...doesnt help remove your scent.
They are worthless and you should all save ur money!
Then again, I spend more than 50% of my hunting time in one...but thats because they dont work and Im looking for challenge!
If ya wanna buy one... get a cable climber with a sling seat and preferably a back rest that folds out to make the tree cushy.
That is if ya dont own ur own land. Id never put a ladder on public land. It will get stolen or even worse...USED
But, on private land... ya cant beat a 15ft ladder stand for ease and comfort!

I have the Summit Backpacker and love it. Allows me to strap my pack on it. Its a climber and weighs only 20 lbs.

I have two fixed stands, they are Bear River models, pretty comfy. I also have a Summit Viper climber, and thisis the stand I'll use if an all day sit during the whitetail rut is on the Menu when Bowhunting. This is a very comfy treestand and feels very safe when using.

Use one every year for deer. Killed a lot of nice bucks, some coyotes and one cougar out of my API Grand Slam Super Mag climber. Tried a bunch of other ones but haven't found one as good or better than the one that I have been using for years.

i use a few lock on stands, mostly for blacktails, but there are a few river spots where i'll hang a stand on the edge of oaxilis and maple flats for elk.

what u mean ice?
There are several magnums rated for 350lbs... and those ratings are low end safety minded.
My API grand slam supreme light is rated for 250 lbs and Id feel safe sitting 20 feet up a tree with you on my lap all day long!
Let me know when ya wanna test that idea
my buddy is over 200lbs and me and him have tested it with me in the seat and him on the front rest bar with both jumping up and down and never fell...
I think some ladder stands are rated for more like 500... how damn much you weigh HOSS?

"Hoss" is still weighing in over the 300lb mark, but I am working on it.....
Actually I have never even considered a tree stand, but do set up alot of blinds with natural duff from the forest floor... I move around too much to carry a stand, or dedicate all day to one spot... Must have ants in my pants or something....

Ice, my API is rated for 350# is extremely comfortable, steady and easy to use. It weighs about 30# but is well worth it. Hey, I am 6' 2" and pushing 3 bills and it holds my big ass 30 feet up quite nicely.

I just bought a treestand a few years ago. Didn't use it the first year I had it, but put it up this last year. Thought it was a pretty good spot to put it where there were a bunch of trails coming together. Sat in it one morning, that was all I could take. I think I will wait to use it this year until I get tired and worn out from hiking all over and since I hunt the eastside I am going to put it over a water source. Definitely takes a lot of patience and good scouting to make it work.

I have a summit climbing stand. I'm taking it up this weekend to practice where I elk hunt. Nine weeks until "game time"! I also use it for the late whitetail season. Love it!
