teaching a old dog new tricks.

so we had a litter of britney puppies 5 years ago and one of the owners gave us one puppy back this year so he is 5 he has never hunted b4 but his mom(which is 9yr.old ) is one of the best hunting dogs ive ever seen. how hard would it be to teach a 5 yearbritney how to be a good pheasant dog? any help would be awesome im new at this.
