« on: October 12, 2011, 11:39:51 AM »
Anyone take any kids out on this hunt?  Didn't see any posts about it on here, maybe I missed it?

Not this year, but my son drew that tag last year and there were deer in every cut we hit.  He passed on tons of does looking for a buck and ended up shooting a little forky

my son drew that tag and i believe you might have missed it it useally opens the weekend before general, my son and i were in vail for the youth hunt and it was awesome, we saw 32 deer and half of those were bucks mostly spikes he shot at a nice 3 pt with eye guards at 70 yds and missed clean 3 times, he was devastated and i was to, he had a serious case of the "OH *censored* FACTOR" ON THE WAY HOME WE TALKED AND THE FIRST BUCK WE SAW SUNDAY MORNING he canned him at 110 yds one shot, it was awesome and i believe that that tag is one of the best youth tags out there heck we had vail all to are self and they give 60 tags ... we saw 3 people, and the guys that check your animals were great with the youngsters

oh yeah i forgot that part he ended up with a 2pt with an eye guard on on side, he couldnt have been happier and neither could i, his first deer was a spike in vail when he was 10, barely bigger than the ferns and it was 1 shot at 15 ft, and that little fella dragged that deer all the way to the truck by himself holdn on to those 5 inch spike antlers he didnt want any help and he road in the back of the truck with his spike all the way to the game check, those guys and gals that work there were awesome they took his picture and gave him a my first deer coffee cup, i wish they would turn vail into a youth only unit. that would be awesome and it would let the deer recover a little bit.

Yep, that where my son shot his first deer(doe). He passed up somthing like 30 does all morning looking for a buck and desided to shoot a doe just befor dark.80yrd shot. The people at the checkin were awsome congradulating him and taking his picture. Diffinitly a great youth hunt.
