Archery during modern?
« on: October 13, 2011, 09:39:45 AM »
Just curious how many others hunt with a bow during modern firearm season? I had a multi-season tag last year and chose to hunt a certain area with a bow the majority of the season. I've taken enough deer with my rifle and try to spend every minute I can taking one with my bow lately, as I have virtually no time off these days.

I'm going to try and carry my bow this year and my rifle, don't want to have a long shot at a monster and not be able to take him.  Would love to take a bear with a bow too.

If I ever have a doe tag ill take the old bow. Adds that extra challenge and is a better reward.

Normally when I see a big buck at the taxidermist that was killed with a bow during modern firearm I suspect it was poached. I had a "friend" fom highschool who used to kill a big buck every year during modern with a bow, but he did it in an apple orchard in his back yard at night.

It would definitely be cool and a great feeling of accomplishment to kill a nice blacktail with a bow during modern, since the archery seasons don't normally coincide with the rut.

There are many, many firearm's restricted area's that people can hunt during modern :twocents:. These small area's can put out some monster's, especially if they are in ag. area's. I have a friend with 15 forested acres that also border's land he can hunt legally and he has had Booner buck's there that I have seen while with him, he chooses not to hunt them, though some day if the right one comes along he just might. The only other poaching issue would be harvesting with an archery tag, which would invalidate a taxidermist's ability to work with the animal.

I am leaving tomorrow for a cow moose hunt and it is an any weapon in a Rifle Deer area. I am planning on using my bow the first week. If I cannot get anything close I may switch to rifle. It will be weird wearing orange again! :o

If I can find a place to hunt on Guemes Island, I'm going to do it with my bow. I have a 2nd antlerless deer tag for there.
It's a long story........

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you can only have one weapon choice with you while hunting not both? :dunno:
