Idaho success again!
« on: October 15, 2011, 06:03:38 PM »
This will be short, since it's the third time I've tried to post it and each time it hasn't worked. Same mountain in Idaho that we went to last year and took 2 elk. These are over the counter public land hunts, 5 elk in 3 years between the 2 of us. I think we have found a honey hole.  Anyway my last two attempts were good long stories but to save my sanity this will be short. It took us only 4 days to kill 2 elk, my hunting partner shot a 5x6 on the 3rd day that should be around 230ish. I shot my bull on the 4th day that I scored at 276 it also was a 5x6. My bull was going crazy when I got to within a 100 yards of him, it was really thick with brush and small trees. He was running back and forth bugling like crazy, finally giving me a shot at about 80 yards. He died about 50 yards from where I shot him. He was a satellite bull that was going crazy because he couldn't get to a hot cow that was just up the hill being protected by a 350+ bull that my partner had seen the day before. How do you pass up any legal bull with an over the counter tag? Any way it was a great hunt, thanks to my elk hunting partner and to my Dad who got to help with one of the elk. Just a side note, in orfino we were checked by fish and game. They are apparently cracking down on people who don't leave evidence of sex with the meat. Enjoy the pic's, and yes I need to get a good camera so I can get some pic's as they lay.

Congrats to you and your partner!  I am still trying to fill my Idaho elk tag but hopefully next week it will happen.

Hey whats up? I didn't know you were on this site, that spot we were at really isn't that good! I just made it sound that good :chuckle: I think any spot along the river where it's void of roads will produce elk, it's just hard hunting. You left too early, go back!! Take care, we will see you there next year? I can't wait.

We never saw any wolves but there was a dead pup wolf on a road off a clear cut. The night we took my elk off the mountain in the dark we did hear a single wolf howling and that was an uneasy feeling, we had a pistol but its a strange sound in the dark. If we did see any.....well. SSS

You know Eric, he's too busy and doesn't like this computer stuff at all.  I think he's been on this site once.

Thanks man, we really do work very hard for these elk every year.  I wonder how much longer I can do these hard pack to be honest with you.  We didn't see any elk in any camps on our way out, we were in a full size ford not a tundra.  Good luck in the when you get back.

Way to go Trophy!   Great bulls!  Way to get it done!  I love it when you find a spot so hard most won't go and the elk will!  Looks like you are on a roll!!

Any luck on your WA tag yet?

The family is full up on meat this year huh  :chuckle:  My freezer is packed with Elk and some moose is on the way!  Hoping I can some how fill my deer tag!   :chuckle:

Had a GREAT time with your pops on our moose hunt!  He hiked his butt off and even rode my mountain bike!  It was awesome to see him is such good shape!  He said you guys had to work your butts off, and that helped him get in shape!

What a season for us all so far!   Congrats!

Thanks cuz, and thanks for including my dad on your trip. He was really excited about going, it has been an incredible year for all of us.  Starting with you guys going 6 for 10 on your elk archery hunts, what a year.  I still have rifle, muzzy and archery to go for elk here in wa so with a little more luck I can get it done.
