WHY WOULD YOU HUNT FROM A MOTORCYCLE???!!!!!!
« on: October 17, 2011, 04:42:59 PM »

So, I was wondering why anyone would be so selfish as to "hunt" in the back country with a motorcycle (or any ATV for that matter)? Hiked in several miles opening morning to hunt an area over 6000ft in elevation. A ways down the trail, here came the motorcycles!!!! It wasn't like they rode into an area then hiked to an spot to hunt either! We glassed um up all day by finding their motorcycles then looking within 100 yards of it! Absolutely disgusted at the lazy, selfish, unmotivated persons who had the nerve to do this! So long Entiat motorcycles. You have the woods to yourself...literally, cause you blew all the deer out from the noise your lazy motorcycles made! Bring on the comments!

Myself I`ve never seen them that high but the motorcycles and quads are taking over the green dot roads where I hunt. I don`t mind them on the roads at all. What I do mind is them driving off the roads to where there going to hunt or driving up to the edge of a canyon. Thats lazy. They might not realize it but there #$%@ing it up for everyone. I understand where your coming from.

Nothing personal toward you....but.... if you dont want to see or be around people who use their motorcycles to access the woods for hunting, you might try finding places where motorized vehicle access is restricted. It doesnt stop everyone but it is a start. As long as they stay on the trails they are allowed on I see NO problem in it.

When I had a motorcycle, I used it to access areas that were open to them.....why not??? I also hiked that same trail ONCE.....never again. You have the same option at your disposal if you have a motorcycle..... :twocents:

If this was in a restricted area then I am sorry to hear that that happened to you.

mabye you should do a lil research next time......  Take some trails instead of roads, or tails closed to motorized...  To me it sounds like barking up an empty tree...  Which sounds ignorant.  :mor: :chuckle:

While I partially agree, calling him ignorant is a bit harsh. I have been in PLENTY of motorized restricted areas and had atv's and motorcycles go cruising by me. I agree with the original post that it pisses me off but there isn't anything you can really do but head to some new area. Give the guy a break before you start calling him out.  :twocents:

I know what you mean. They have no idea what they are doing.  They dont realize what they are spooking.  I hiked in about an hour on a trail then about thirty minutes off that trail,  find a nice little meadow and take a seat.  After a half hour or so i have four does out grazing and then i here it.  this p.o.s. four wheeler comes rolling in back firing, which scares off the does, drives all the way into the middle of the meadow.  Not realizing that there was ever anything or anyone there until i stand up give him a nice, freindly wave and walk away :hello: THANKS BUDDY.  Im not saying that i would have killed a buck that night but  WE  BOTH would have had a better chance.  Some peoples children right.

I'm on his side for the most part, I hate hunting area's were you know the animals are at but are to spooked by quads and dirtbikes, you should make sure that next time you go hunting you walk in a little earlier so by the time its day light your right where you need to be, or just look for the No Motorized Vehicle access hunting spots. But what the off roaders out there dont realize is there ripping up very good land to shreds and are not staying on the trail as there are told, and leaving trash like beer cans and stuff in some spots especially in the unit 336 are just gonna ruin it for any motorized access which is really gonna piss me off too.
If you can't play with the big dogs then STAY on the porch.

There are just as many idiots, and morons, walking in your hunting areas as riding motorcycles. I can see coming on here bashing motorcyclists if they were where they weren't supposed to be, but it sounds like they were not doing anything illegal. If the trail is open to motorcycles, and they want to ride up hunting, more power to them. Not my personal preference of hunting style, but who are you to tell someone how to hunt?

The largest Mule Deer Buck I have ever seen with my own 2 eyes was feeding in the open within a very few minutes of 3 motorcycles going by on a trail up in the Manastash.
Last thing I expected  :yike:
I honestly feel it bothers me more than it does the animals, they hear it all year long.
but then we have had deer and Elk walk through camp in July, they get smarter when it is hunting season.

killed a lot of deer just a 1/2 - 1 mile up a draw from the roadhunters, deer don't spook as far as you think

WOW!!! This post just rubbed me the wrong way. First off, I have hunted of my dirtbike in designated ORV areas.  In my opinion it makes since, i can get further away in alot less time using less energy.  I'm surprised more people don't do it.  Riding tanum during modern deer season Ive seen lots of buck tracks and even some 3pts on or just off the trail, and not one set off boot prints anywhere. Because no one will hop on a bike and ride up to the higher areas to get away from the crowds. Second, in your post you said you were in entiat. There is a ton of ORV trails in the area, devils backbone, duncan hill (7000ft), angle peak, Mad river, the three different tommy trails, the list goes on. If these people were hunting off there bikes good for them, if they were just out for a ride good for them, Hell if these people were just out riding and they were by klone peak, then it might of been me! And yes there were quite a few deer tracks in the snow and guess what, not one hunter around (that i saw)
However if you were in a area that is not open to orv use, then you have every right to be upset.  Nothing pisses me off more then seeing dirtbikes/quads, and even hunters in areas they are not supposed to be in. Its bad for all user groups involved. ok im done, i think, hope i made some sense hahaha
I read it on the internet, its gotta be real

Must have been your first year hunting that area, because if its open to them they'll be up there every year. :twocents:

Exactly. People shouldn't bitch about motorcycles or ATVs when they don't have a clue about what they are talking about. Can't bitch if you don't investigate motorized access. :nono:
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
