Nice!  So were the reports correct this year and they were about 1 for every 5 miles?  Sounds like they were exaggerating the reporting a little bit this year. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Honestly, I thought it was a little better than the last three years.  It really isn't like it was 20 years ago.  I did pretty well though.  I shot 7 roosters in three days, but I hunted my tail off for those.  And, there were LOTS of hunters.  That place got pounded hard.  The first field I was in opening morning felt like a west side release site....like Ebey release site lol.  Sunday was slower as usual and then Monday there were less hunters and more room to hunt.  It's still fun for me over there, but I do remember how it USED to be.

Used to be real good around my grandmothers but to many hunters just started walking on her land without asking so she has my dad cut all the tall grass and weeds around her property and near her pond and ditches.  She used to let them walk around her property and send in dogs but when they just started trespassing and acting like it was public land (even though she has 5 foot barbed wire fencing all the way around) and stopped asking she had enough.

It only takes a couple to ruin it for the rest.

Is it a drain ditch with moving water in it year round?

Hey 87Ford,

Nice pictures. Is that a Benelli Montefeltro? I've had one for about 11 yrs or so and its been awesome.

Is there anything you have to do (classes you have to take) to hunt out on the rez? Thanks for any info.

Well, it is a Benelli, but it's the Ultra light in 12 gauge with 24" barrel.  I like the higher rib of the Ultra light.  I bought this gun before the season last year and I absolutely love it.  The Montefeltro is nice too, but has the lower rib that I'm not fond of.  This gun is very light and I can carry it all day.  Did I say I love this gun?...lol.  I was 8 for 8 on pheasants with it this weekend.

To hunt on the Yakima Reservation you need a permit.  You can buy a three-day or a full season permit and you can get them online or at many of the local sporting goods stores...Hammer's, etc.  I think they sell them at Walmart in Yakima too.  Just about anywhere.  Don't expect to be alone out there.  It gets hunted pretty hard and the pheasant hunting isn't like it used to be, but there's a few birds.  There also seems to be a lot less "feel free to hunt" lands these days.  I thought there was a lot of pressure opening weekend.  You couldn't find a feel free to hunt area that didn't already have hunters in it.

Nice pics. I have been hunting there long enough to see the big drop in hunting. I found the same thing regarding the feel free to hunt spots. There are fewer open spots on the map every year. I think its the same amount of hunters just less land. I spoke with other guys and landowners about the changes. Has anyone talked to the Reservation people at the Yakima Nation to ask why they have less land? Some fields are removed and not farmed. They are just posted and removed from the map for no apparent reason.

Interesting, I'm not familiar with the "ultra light" but it looks a heck of a lot like the Montefeltro. I absolutely love my "feltcher"  :chuckle: you dont see too many people with the benelli upland autos but man are they sweet to shoot. The Montefletro is a little too straight for me and I have all of the shims that came with the gun between the stock and action to try to help but its still too straight I see a good portion of rib when I bring it up to my face. Still love it though and its a really good looking gun, much like yours!
Thanks again for the info I think I will stear clear of that area and concentrate on chuckars and huns.
