bino lens repair/rehab
« on: October 23, 2011, 12:17:18 PM »
have a bushnell elite bino, i love it but over the years the eye piece lenses have degraded, on the surface, scratches and coating damage. most likely caused by improper cleaning on my part while in the field. Can these be repaired or polished.

Lens coatings can't be repaired.  Well I suppose they could, but they'd have to be taken to bare glass and have the coatings reapplied.  Far easier for the company to replace the lenses.  I have not had much good experience with Bushnell Customer service, but since the ELite (I think) had/has a pretty good warranty, that they might replace the lenses.  If they determine it is not a warranty issue, they can (and maybe will) replace the lenses.  I'd call them and see.  Depending on how much you like the Elite, replacemant may be cheaper than another comparable binocular.

After selecting the best glass you can afford, proper cleaning and lens care is the next most important thing in the career of an optical instrument.  NEVER be without the right kind of something to clean the lenses.

yeah, i agree, i have been sloppy when cleaning in the field, all that dust, water drops, or tiny leaf stuff normally gets blown out with my breath then rubbed on with the ends of my shirt, guess i could do a better job at that.  thx for the lens replacement idea, i'll look into it and see if bushnell can help, its a less expensive idea i guess, but those bushnell HD's are on sale right now with cabelas, plus a 20 buck certificate, i kinda want a 8power, my ten is abit much for woods stalking.
