Another weekend in Hancock or head to the wilderness?
« on: October 24, 2011, 09:15:43 PM »
So I'm not having a lot of luck in hancock and I have a buddy who is heading out for a little hiking/scounting trip to the goat rocks wilderness area this weekend. So I have a decision to make. Keep plugging away in hancock, or go see some new country, enjoy a nice hike, and hope to see a deer/bear in the wilderness. What would you guys do?

Wilderness is tough but more rewarding. There was some weather up there yesterday so it should get some of the deer moving around. Always great to be able to see a good distance and maybe be able to poke a bear too.

Just got back from three day wilderness hunt.  No bucks, very little deer but with the weather change, who knows.

It's just getting to be game time in Hancock. I love it when guy's are all jacked up for hunting season and they go to Hancock for a week and get discuraged. Then they go look for other hunting area's and I see fewer hunter's and more deer. The first week of Modern is iffy at best. This coming FRI-MON is gonna be money.

I assume you guys are talking about Kapowsin? Not White River or Snoqualmie?

Sorry I just don't get why people on this site refer to the Kapowsin Tree Farm as Hancock when Hancock is simply the landowner. You don't see people saying "I hunted the USFS/DNR/BLM this weekend" because how many millions of acres do those agencies hold in this state. Well in King and Pierce Counties alone Hancock has 4 tree farms. And hold significant land ownership in Klickitat, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Lewis and Wahkiakum Counties. But yet we are supposed to know when people say "Hancock" they are only referring to Kapowsin?  :bash:

Sorry about the word choice Bigtex, It was just a general question, Tree farm hunting vs wilderness hunting. I didn't think exact location was that important, but I will make sure to keep that in mind next time.

Highside74: I'm not getting discouarged, I know the bucks will be getting more active here in the next few days, I have been in Kapowsin quite alot this year, but it's still my first year in there and I don't know the farm that well. The area I know best seems to have been pretty shot up this week. I found the buck I was looking for, dead on Sunday. Seems something got him. There was also three boned out, laying on the side of the road. And I can't get used to all the road hunters, I actually seen a guy riding in the back of a truck. Modern season so far has been an experience.
