Photo theme: Panoramics

I love doing panoramic photos.  However, they rarely look that great on a computer because you can't get them to a size to do them justice.  I have stitched as many as 20 photos together for a stitch and it really makes a high resolution image.  One of the many problems I have is with distortion from the lens.  Generally, a normal lens in the 40-70mm range works best.

The following shot was taken at 22mm, so there was a lot of distortion with the sky.  I think it looks great though.  The subject?  Our very own Straits of Juan De Fuca.  I spent the weekend up on NAS Whidbey crabbing and clamming with the family.  This was not sunset...it was actually about 4pm if I remember right.  It just happened to be a magical light moment.  I took some later with a dramatic sunset but I like the interest in the clouds in this shot despite the lack of color.  On your left is Port Angeles and on the right is the San Juans with Lopez Island.  You can barely make out Smith Island in the center.  This was a 3 shot stitch.

I enjoy looking at Pope's photos.  Man he takes some top notch referance photos.

Still in Bellevue.  Been dealing with the dog, family, house, etc.  You know the deal.  Trying to get a big lens for the upcoming season but the wife wanted a hot tub, siding for the house, vet bills, etc.  Should have called.  I know a few spots we can get a cold one.

There is tons of free panoramic stitching software.  I know Canon cameras come with it and you can download programs and updates from the website.

One of the things I want to focus on from a photography standpoint is wildlife panoramics and wildlife HDR pictures...

Dang, I need to get my desktop computer repaired.  I did one of an Apple Cup game in Martin Stadium just after sunset.  POS camera, but it looked kind of neat.  You have to have one of Martin Stadium Pope.

I have tons of Martin Stadium...but the school owns all my images.  I don't think I took one for me personally.  (by the way, I also have a lot of the cheerleaders...and they are for me personally  )

Any camera can do panoramic images.  Just lock your exposure and shoot them and overlap the images by about 1/3rd.  Another thing that people forget to do is take your camera off Auto white balance.  That will mess up your images just like changing exposures can.

If someone needs some software suggestions I can look into that.  Check the disk that came with your camera as more than likely it came with decent software.

I have a page full of "Natasha" negatives in one of my photo boxes downstairs...    Guess I'll have to find a film scanner...  Did lots of her, she was a "nice" girl.
