Knife Build Part 2: Bostering

Been awhile, But I got to the bolster tonight...

I've been swamped, and now on top of it my folks came up with an Emergency Bathroom Remodel Job for me! Hope to have that done tomorrow.

I've got one knife ahead of the photo project knife, so I'll probably finish it up this time next week. Shoudl be 2 more posts. One building the scale then roughing it out. Then 2, finishing it and polishing it up.

But for now I got the bolsters photographed!

AND I managed to remember - - after I cut them - - that I was doing a photo essay on this knife so I ran inside and got the camera!





Parts all gathered together... I'd already cut the brass, pins, and bored them out.








If you're going to add shape to the top of the bolsters, do it NOW! Before they're on the blade!








Drive it all together then peen the pins. (Ears will ring, neighbors will complain... but keep them short, that brass is soft and if it bends over you'll have a gap!)







Pins are over swollen and tight as can be. They're also compressed and the bolsters are tight against the blade.







Grind them off to rough, they'll disappear when it comes time to finish the knife off.







Finish the shape off on the detail grinder, find the tang down in there somewhere.







There she is! Ready to scale up! These lined up pretty good, sometimes you have to file them to match if they twist a little.








More to come, probably Monday or Tuesday next week.
