My dad and I drew the any elk tag and have been in there since Oct. 15.  We have only seen two elk the whole time!!!  We were lucky enough to take a 5 point a few days ago.  I have talked with a lot of hunters out there that have not even seen an elk.  Muzzleloaders did pretty well earlier and so did the master hunters in August.  I don't know when your tag ends, but I would wait for a while to see if any elk show up before you waste your gas $$$$$

I wish I could help.  I had a cow tag there for early archery, but filled my tag before even making it out there.
I hear it can be a pretty tough place to find them.
Good luck to you!!   Let us know if you find them!

When checking in ask for Chris Cameron. No one knows the Range like Chris. Good Luck

I know you have to do some paper work for your weapons, get a visitors pass at the main gate and watch a safety video at the gym and pay $20 for an annual rec pass.  Then check in at range control to see where you can hunt on that given day.

This is funny i posted a similar coment just a second ago then saw yours.  It has been tough hunting out there.  I have been putting on the miles on foot and driving and hiking out to look outs and glassing it has been really hard to find elk even cows.  If I was cow hunting I wouldn't waste my gas... considering the amount of gas you use driving back in there and out of there every night.  Glad you got one bull Clase was it by itself or in a group... I have found a few deer and coyotes and thats it, not even any new sign from elk.

The yaks have wiped out the deer in there, maybe they hit the elk hard to? But even before the yak's wiped out the deer we never did see too many elk in there, I would never put in for that elk tag.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Well, anyone fill their firing center elk tags?

I was in there the first week of November and the log book had around a dozen elk taken, and quite a few were bulls.  I saw some dandy bucks during the day, although no elk.  Will be back over this weekend for a couple day cow hunt. :tung:
