Montana Success
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:19:24 PM »
Had a great hunt in eastern Montana last week with all of us getting our bucks and I had an antelope tag that I filled also. Hunted mostly block management and some blm, all walk in areas. Had  good times with guys who like to get after it and it was also my boys first out of state adventure so him getting a nice buck was great. Weather was good for hunting with a few brisk mornings of 9 degrees and later in the week we enjoyed 6o mile an hour winds which made for sleepless nights in the wall tent. We killed a critter every day of the hunt and passed up lots of bucks so it was a nice change from chasing blacktails here at home where sightings of deer are rare! A few highlights of the trip. We spent several hours one day trying to get closer to a buck my 12 year old wanted to shoot, a nice heavy 3 point. I saw him go into some rimrocky cliff country and watched him bed down right in the rocks under a cliff so we planned a stalk. I knew it would be close but when Cole poked his head over that last rock to see where the buck was he turned to me and said "he's right there" meaning less than 20 yards and of course he didn't stick around for a shot. While it was dissapointing for a kid I told him that is part of hunting and you learn to enjoy that as much as killing your buck eventually. In the end he killed a bigger buck and got to experience a great hunt. Highlight number two for me was the buck I got. I spotted a couple bucks one morning across the canyon and before I could judge through my spotter if they were for sure shooters they went in some timber and bedded down. I resolved to sit on this rocky perch I was on until they came out, which is the hardest thing for me to do just sit and wait. My bro in law showed up later in the day and after 5 plus hours of sitting there my buck walked out on a trail across from us and I dumped him and then he rolled 200 yards down the hill and ended up laying on a frozen creek. Finally sitting in one spot for most of a day had paid off! All in all a great hunt, lots of memories and meat in the freezer. Enjoy,  nwhunter

Way to stay with it, Congrats. We talking north or south eastern Montana. Heard that the numbers up north were down.

What a trip!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Way to go guys!
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
